A Hat in Time is a 2017 platform game developed by Danish game studio Gears for Breakfast and published by Humble Bundle. The game was developed using Unreal Engine 3 and funded through a Kickstarter campaign, which nearly doubled its fundraising goals within its first two days. The game was self-published for macOS and Windows in October 2017, and by Humble Bundle for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles two months later. A version for the Nintendo Switch was released in October 2019.

Runs well on modern hardware.

i adore a hat in time as a little kid when this game first released, i watched many let's plays of people playing, always intrigued by its queer, unique humor and style. fast fowards a few years, this game came to mind when i was scrolling the seasonal steam sales, and remembering the fond memories, i bought it. i can confidently say that it was everything i had dreamt it to be. the cartoonish comedic style of a hat in time is incomparable to any other game. gears for breakfast poured their souls into their breakout indie game. hat kid's comedic punchlines, the unique personality of every character (the fat penguin , the conductor, evil purple dud, mustache girl), and gorgeous art style are everything to die for). the platforming itself isn't anything to write home about, but it's enough for the simple, casual platforming. the main appeal isn't the platforming (which is a bummer for some) its the world and soundtrack of the game. i dont want to spoil much but each level is so carefully crafted to blend in seamlessly with each other, especially the first two chapters. the game's an indie project with a soul injected into it like hollow knight or OneShot. I would definitely recommend this game for everyone who enjoys aesthetics more than mechanical innovation. pick it up on sale, full price, whenever. go into the game blind, play it slow, you're not racing against a clock for brownie points, enjoy the world you're in. and gears for breakfast, i hope you're going to continue on the IP and world later on, and that you're biding your time to release a sequel.
very deserving of its reputation as one of the greatest indie games of all time. if I did have a child, this is one of the first games I would introduce them to.
when i was younger, i played this game all the time with my brother. i now own this game, and every piece of dlc for it. it is still, to this day, one of my favorite games EVER. it will eternally hold up over time, and i dont think i could ever hate this game. thank you for all of the fun gears for breakfast!
