Absolum is a beat'em up video game with roguelike elements. Developed by Guard Crush Games and Supamonks, it was published by Dotemu for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows, and Xbox Series X/S.

Runs well on modern hardware.

This game is nuts. The art style and world building are amazing. There's some good voice acting in present and the story does a decent job whilst the characters are way more interesting than you see in most games today. but most of all the roguelike beat-em-up gameplay loop is very entertaining! There are plenty of builds to be had and once you get a hang of which upgrades work best with your play style, it gets really quite satisfying. Overall, I've had tons of fun playing through this. Combat is engaging and filled with a variety of moves per each character. The enemies are varied. Everything is beautifuly well animated. The level design is so well done that you often find yourself pausing just to marvel at the sights. Each of the lands have branching pathways to helped keep each run fun and fresh. There are also side tracks to the branching pathways, so you can create unique runs by taking shortcuts or discovering new paths as you progress. And speaking of progression, the game has a very well design upgrade system which allows you to upgrade your skills and traits with a variety of currencies collected during each of the runs. In overall, the game just has you being so impressed with the amount of effort put into it by the devs. They concockted a vry fine blend of rogue-lite and beat-em-up games. Absolum is that one game you won't want to sleep on. Best get it sooner than later!
BY FAR THE BEST BEAT 'EM UP I HAVE PLAYED SINCE THE GOLDEN ERA OF THE GENRE IN THE 90s. As a former comic book artist, I must highlight the gorgeous artstyle, which reminds me of Gabriel Bá's work (Umbrella Academy, Daytripper, How to Talk to Girls at Parties, and 10 Pãezinhos). Noice roguelite elements with HIGH REPLAYABILITY and fair character progression. On your replays, you constantly encounter new story content, bosses, events, and environmental interactions. The builds differ visually and mechanically, offering various meaningful combinations. The negative aspect is the presence of FULL CRASHES during scenes with a lot of enemies and visual effects (not always, but also not rare). Avoid chickens!!! A must-play for old timers and fans of the genre.
Me and my partner would absolutely love to love this game, But with the game crashing on multiplayer together almost every single time. It started out great, we beat the game even. But recently, as we're on our second play through, it works fantastic until after the first boss, then on the next area it keeps crashing and dropping one of us. I'd been less upset if it let us rejoin each other where we got up to, but unfortunately that run is dead and start all over. Again I want to love this game. The game feels good, Combat is smooth, and very fun to combo and all. But this connection issues makes it not as fun as it started.
