Amnesia: The Dark Descent is a 2010 survival horror adventure game developed and published by Frictional Games. It was first released on 8 September 2010 for Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux. Later, it was released to PlayStation 4 on 22 November 2016, Xbox One on 28 September 2018, and Nintendo Switch on 12 September 2019 as part of The Amnesia Collection. The game follows Daniel, who must explore the dark and foreboding Castle Brennenburg, while trying to maintain his sanity by avoiding monsters and unsettling events.

Runs well on modern hardware.

This game is the kind of horror game that makes you afraid to open the next door. There are no guns, no fighting back, and honestly, that's what makes it so scary. When something starts chasing you, all you can do is run, hide, and hope it doesn't find you. The atmosphere is amazing. The dark hallways, creepy sounds, and music work together perfectly to keep you on edge. Even when nothing is happening, the game somehow makes you feel uncomfortable in the best way possible. The sound design and voice acting also help make the world feel believable and memorable. I also love how interactive the game is. You can pick up and move lots of objects, throw things around, and even use furniture to block doors when you're desperate. The mechanics are simple, but they fit the game perfectly. The story is interesting without getting in the way of the horror, and the pacing keeps things moving at a good speed. Solving puzzles and making it through dangerous areas feels rewarding, especially when you're terrified the whole time. Also Amnesia: Justine is very well done. In some ways, I think I enjoyed it even more than the main game. The story follows a woman who puts herself through a disturbing moral test, and the whole idea is both fascinating and unsettling. The choices you have to make, the atmosphere, and the way the story unfolds kept me hooked from start to finish. Overall, this is one of those terrifying games. If you like creepy atmosphere, tense gameplay, and getting scared for no good reason, Amnesia is absolutely worth playing. Just don't expect to feel safe for very long😅
Amnesia: The Dark Decent is one of the best horror experiences out there and stands the test of time very well! Frictional Games knows horror to its core, even from the start; and The Dark Decent is a classic in the horror gaming sphere. The atmosphere of this game is so well done. It sets up the setting, monsters, and other obstacles fantastically. Getting past the fear and the puzzles is thrilling and rewarding, and as an extra reward; a intriguing story to add to the horror. You can feel the world building and the care put into the gameplay here and it is truly unforgettable! And outstanding voice acting and sound design to top it off. The accomplishment and rewarding feeling this game gives you for taking some risky steps almost makes the gameplay addictive, and if you get caught up in that, don't you worry! The modding community has got you covered and is honestly one of the best. Custom stories still come out by loving fans today so there are a lot to play, and their are some unbelievably amazing mods out there to explore! I can not recommend this game enough to horror fans or people wanting to get into the genre!
A flawless indie run-and-hide horror game. I especially admire the game never holding the player's hand. Like PS2 games. My only gripe is that there is no map at all. Make sure to install the remaster project in advance.
