Doesn't seem like much at first, but the game does a great job at building up the story and characters up over time. I was in it for the long haul a couple hours in. The gameplay was also fun to master, although the start was rough on the hardest difficulty, so I'd recommend the second-hardest one. Overall, you can totally tell the game is a labor of love, and a one-of-a-kind experience.
I just know everybody who looks Astlibra for the first time think the same thing: This looks cheap as hell! But looks aside the game is as memorable as it can be, the gameplay is rather simple but the skill system and limited resources to toggle said skills lets you try a lot of diferent builds and even the item based puzzles can surprise you with very clever solutions In the end the star of the show is the plot which is just sublime, never before I had seen a twist coming from a mile only to have it adressed and revealed to be something much more unique. All of that sprinkled with really effective humor and relatable characters The DLC is also really fun and interesting but I'd say it's only for those who truly loved the base game and want more because that's what it is, just more content. As good as it is I'll give it a 9/10 but not for lack of effort and love of the dev For a game that has this much limitations it's way better than anybody could imagine
Simply one of the greatest games I have ever had the pleasure to play. It's not perfect in every aspect, but it's damn close. The story is good and enjoyable to watch play out, but something almost always feels off about the execution of it. Despite this, I still got emotional at several moments and attached to the characters. The music is one of my favorite aspects. I haven't felt emotion from music like this since the days of SquareSoft RPGs on the PS1. The game mechanics are fantastic and a joy to interact with. I love the combat and all the little systems you utilize to build your character up. It's hard to judge the combat on trailers and gameplay videos as I think the combat and movement feels way better than it appears. It's kind of like a metroidvania with the heart and soul of a visual novel. There's really nothing else out there like it.
