Very Gratifying Bed Time Story
Just as cozy as the story begins, some parts were very intense. The hook of the game had me already intensely shook. It already showcased that it is going to be an extraordinary adventure in a seemingly quiet town. So many questions, branches and dead ends. Quite figuretively and literally. The narrator kept everything connected with a red lining. She sounded like a charismatic person and I could listen to her for hours. The games branches into several possiblities that grows as a tree. It was wonderful seeing how everything unfolds and become clearer and clearer. Yet, the story was never linear due to the great implementation of the books and the charms. Twists and Turns had me shook. I was devastated, joyous and at the end just gratified. As a verdict, this is what a well roundes story should be.
This game was different than I thought it would be, but I was so pleasantly surprised. Gameplay involves exploring within the pages of a storybook and finding words to influence the story. Incredible graphics and music. Loved the voice acting. Was invested enough in the story to go back and discover all the different storyline routes during a single gaming session. The characters are charming and the story was more heartfelt than I expected it to be. Will wait a little while to pick it up again but I do think I could see myself playing it again in the future.
I give this game 4 out of 5 stars. I liked the story - it was engaging and kept me hooked even though it was a little out there. I definitely felt invested and even found myself theorizing the next twist. The writing was clever and funny without being verbose, and each character had their own clear voice and personality. The one interesting mechanic was the charm and branching story system. But honestly, I think the experience could have stood on its own without that. I especially appreciate the relatively short play time because finishing the game didn't feel like a chore, which happens in many other visual novels. With that said, I wouldn't have felt like the game was worth it at full price. Wait for a sale (I think I got my copy 70% off for $6.
