Cat Quest

Very conditional Recommend. A very casual and cute ARPG, perfect for casual gamers or children as an introduction to the ARPG genre. It will definitely keep you occupied for a while, there's plenty to do in-game. Lovely art style as well. For those that game a bit more than just casually: It is a fetch quest sim and the creators don't shy away from it. The player character's companion references the fetch quests constantly and mocks them for being absurd - the problem with that is, satirizing something doesn't quite work when you don't just partake, but indulge in the trope. The action is extremely simplistic. There are like 6 attacks enemies can do in total, that's the entire game and encompasses every encounter type, from basic enemies to the very final boss. The only difference between early game and late game enemies is that they tend to overlap two or more of those 6 attacks at once. The looting is okay. While you find duplicates of equipment you already have, instead of them going to waste or clogging up your inventory, they level up items you already have. The stories and writing are just throwaway really, full of cat puns though if you are into that. The following is the biggest negative for me, that ultimately won't impact you at all if you are a casual gamer. It is more for those of us that go for 100% and achievement hunt: There are absurd requirements for 100% achievements and it isn't the achievements themselves but rather how you unlock them. For the Old Master set, instead of being able to pick all three Mew Game modifiers at once to unlock all three of the set pieces in one go, they require that you do a playthrough for each piece. To put that into perspective, you got your first normal playthrough (that unlocks Mew Game and Meowdifiers), then a 2nd with 1 Modifier for one piece, 3rd with 2 Modifiers for another, then a 4th playthrough with 3 Modifiers for the final set piece. Then you have to do a 5th or 6th playthroughs to get the remaining achievements tied to the other modifiers, as one of them involves a modifier that can't be stacked with the rest without nullifying their achievements and rewards. I mean, if it were a very interesting game and highly replayable, the expectation to play through it 5+ times would be reasonable but as it stands, it is an unreasonable ask from the devs. It is for that reason I mentioned that this is a very conditional Recommend. For the majority of people and casual gamers, go ahead and get it, even if kind of mid it is a game with cute cats and people love that stuff. You could definitely do a lot worse for ways to spend your time. If, however, you are a completionist, achievement hunter or just someone that expects something beyond just a shallow layer of game mechanics, I would not recommend Cat Quest at all.

A simple little game with no pretensions, but genuinely fun to play. It's easy to learn, accessible to everyone, and has enough content to make the experience worthwile. The amount of cat memes and wonderful dialogues are huge but mostly the game about nothing. As a game is just ok, even cool dialogues doesn't give much info 5.5/10
