Was thorougly surprised at how amazing this game was. It started off okay, but the first trail is where things REALLY kicked off. And from that point onwards, it just kept getting better and better and better. The biggest risk in a death game style story is that you create loads of disposal characters meant to die early and be forgotten about. But that was not at all the case with this story. By the end I had learnt to appreciate (or hate) every single character. They all have such distinguishable traits and its very fun to see them interact. It's brilliant. There's never any boring moment due to how vibrant the characters are. Gameplay wise the trials really had me using my brain hard. Its a real way to cook you mentally. I recommend going through every investigation and trial in one sitting, otherwise youll have a bad time remembering details. Also, I ABSOLUTELY recommend playing on the hardest difficulty. It makes the solving of each mystery so much more satisfying. Kyoko best girl
My first ever visual novel. The game was amazing experience, voice acting, dialogues, class trials - everything was super entertaining and on a high level. Totally recommend it!
Used to really like this series when I was 12 and then my brain fully formed To be fair... This game is the one that I think pulls off the most interesting ideas and makes its concept work. I just generally don't like the writing of these games, and I think part of it is just growing out of it, but I also do truly think that on some level the writing is just bad. The gameplay is another great concept that's executed a little poorly. Some of the minigames are incredibly fun and others are frustratingly awful. The gameplay in SDR2 and V3 is much better, but with each subsequent entry this series just got worse in terms of writing, and I already don't like this game's writing. In a visual novel, writing is pretty important... If you want to see Kodaka write well, The Hundred Line is right there AND has one of the best visual novel writers on board alongside him. This series has aged incredibly poorly. So, as my SDR2 review says: "hell naw"
