A visual novel mystery focused around a game of murder that feels like it jumped straight out of an anime. Play as Makoto Naegi, a student invited into Hope's Peak Academy via a lottery, a school normally reserved for the best and brightest students in Japan. While an average person in all respects, winning this lottery lands Makoto with the title of Ultimate Lucky Student, something that will follow them throughout their entire time at the Academy. Upon arriving at the school, Makoto is rendered unconscious, along with the other students, awakening to find that all the exits are sealed, windows covered with thick steel plates, and that each of the fifteen students has been kidnapped to participate in a killing game where only one can leave. The killing game itself is being run by a Headmaster, represented by various black and white robotic bear puppets, with each student being considered the ultimate of their respective field. The students are:

Makoto Naegi - The Ultimate Lucky Student
Aoi Asahina - The Ultimate Swimming Pro
Byakuya Togami - The Ultimate Affluent Progeny
Celestia Ludenberg - The Ultimate Gambler
Chihiro Fujisaki - The Ultimate Programmer
Hifumi Yamada - The Ultimate Fanfic Creator
Junko Enoshima - The Ultimate Fashionista
Kiyotaka Ishimaru - The Ultimate Moral Compass
Kyoko Kirigiri - The only student who doesn't know her ultimate ability
Leon Kuwata - The Ultimate Baseball Star
Mondo Owada - The Ultimate Biker Gang Leader
Sakura Ogami - The Ultimate Martial Artist
Sayaka Maizono - The Ultimate Pop Sensation
Toko Fukawa - The Ultimate Writing Prodigy
Yasuhiro Hagakure - The Ultimate Clairvoyant
These students are placed into a killing game, where the only way they can leave is by murdering one of their fellow classmates and getting away with the murder after the survivors have had a chance to investigate it and hold a trial; if they are able to get away with the murder then they can go free, the rest of the class being executed, but if the right person is convicted, they themselves are put to death in an over-the-top fashion. Gameplay has each day divided into segments, a daily life where students can explore the school and chat with other students, gaining new information, or even spending free time with individual students one-on-one to increase your relationship with them, unlocking new skills for the trial in deadly life. Deadly life takes place once a murder has happened, investigating areas of the school to collect clues to use during the trial. When the trial occurs, students will get together to debate who committed the murder. There are four different game modes in the trial: Nonstop Debate, Hangman's Gambit, Bullet Time Battle, and Closing Argument, being a series of mini-games you must complete in order to properly argue the case and come to the correction conclusion of who murdered who. The execution of the killing game concept is pretty well done, hooking me in straight away since you can never be quite sure off the bat who is going to be next, and who will be the person who committed the crime. I don't usually dig the visual novel genre, but this one definitely opened me up to the idea of trying more. I'd easily recommend giving this one a go, as it hooked me right from the get-go.
