The game was first released for Microsoft Windows and OS X in January 2016, which followed a year-long early access development period. Later that year, it was released for PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, and Linux, with a port for iOS being released in 2017, and ports for Nintendo Switch and Xbox One being released by 2018.

Stop shoving DLC advertisements into the core gameplay. It’s intrusive, obnoxious, and makes the game feel like a vehicle for selling DLC rather than a complete experience. This kind of monetization reflects poorly on both the game and you as a developer.
A masterclass in managing chaos. Darkest Dungeon is easily one of the most stressful experiences you can have in gaming, yet it is equally rewarding. At its core, this game isn't about being an all-powerful hero; it’s about learning how to make the absolute best out of a terrible situation. Uniquely, playing this game taught me a lot about managing my own emotions in the face of tragedy. It forces you to expect things to go wrong. It taught me to simply focus on doing the best within my power, maintaining my mental fortitude, and keeping my resolution intact even when everything is crumbling. To top it all off, the Ancestor is arguably the greatest narrator to ever be born in video game history. His voice perfectly punctuates your highest triumphs and your deepest downfalls. If you want a game that tests your mind as much as your strategic skills, this is it.
