Dead Cells is a 2018 roguelike-Metroidvania game developed by French independent developer Motion Twin. The player takes the role of an amorphous creature called the Prisoner. As the Prisoner, the player must fight their way out of a diseased island in order to slay the island's King. The player gains weapons, treasure and other tools through exploration of the procedurally generated levels. Dead Cells features a permadeath system, causing the player to lose all items and other abilities upon dying. A currency called Cells can be collected from defeated enemies, allowing the player to purchase permanent upgrades.

Runs well on modern hardware.

This game is great. It's a sort of 2d side scroller with fast paced combat that has a lot of variety and re-playability. You start off somewhat weak and through every attempt to progress through the maps and every death you slowly gain power to go further the next time.. and the next... and the next after that. Death becomes part of the game. You keep earning currency to unlock permanent upgrades, then try again. You can start with random weapons, or use the options to control what is available. As you move through the levels you find new weapons and items so you can swap or upgrade as you go. Each weapon can change how you fight making it very fun. The art is great. It's vibrant and you can clearly see it in the trailers. Unlocking all cosmetics, powers, weapons, and hunting achievements when the path through the worlds you can take each time can change makes this game have a lot of hours of potential gameplay. This one is worth the money.

This is one of those games where the DLC are integrated ingame; you fight through a gauntlet of enemies to reach a door and a message appears that say "if you want to go here you must buy X"... So if you want a "full" game you have to buy all DLC and that's practically the same cost as the base game.
