Divinity: Original Sin Classic Edition is widely regarded as a modern masterpiece of the classic RPG genre. It successfully revitalizes old-school mechanics with a fresh, highly interactive turn-based combat system where elemental combinations—like casting rain to douse fire or shocking a puddle to electrocute enemies—make every battle a rewarding tactical puzzle. The game offers an incredible level of freedom, allowing you to solve quests in multiple ways and even debate decisions between your two main characters. While it can be challenging and doesn't hold your hand, it is an absolute must-play for fans of deep, strategic role-playing games. Key Highlights Tactical Combat The turn-based combat is often cited as the game's greatest strength, utilizing the environment and elemental magic to create complex, rewarding encounters. Player Freedom You are given immense agency to explore, experiment, and solve quests however you see fit, without the game forcing you down a linear path. Cooperative Play The game features a seamless drop-in/drop-out cooperative multiplayer mode, allowing you to share the entire adventure with a friend. Things to Keep in Mind Steep Learning Curve The game expects patience and can be unforgiving in its early hours, offering very little hand-holding. Inventory Management The interface can occasionally feel cumbersome, particularly when managing items and equipment across multiple characters.
This is my first Larian Studios game and my god is it amazing -- the voice acting, the quests, the humour. I have literally become an addict. The game can be very challenging on normal settings for someone who is new to RPG games like these. But the sense of accomplishment when you clear a part of the map is unbeatable. Once I finish this version, I will do another playthrough for the Enhanced Edition.
Divinity: Original Sin (Classic) is the kind of RPG where creativity is often more powerful than your sword. From the very beginning, the game encourages experimentation. You can combine spells, manipulate the environment, solve quests in multiple ways, and build your characters however you like. Setting poison on fire or electrifying a puddle never gets old. 🔥⚡ The turn-based combat is fantastic. Every battle rewards planning, positioning, crowd control, and smart use of the environment rather than simply having better gear. Winning a difficult fight feels incredibly satisfying. 🛡️🧙 Exploration is equally rewarding. Rivellon is full of hidden treasures, memorable characters, clever quests, and secrets around nearly every corner. Even random conversations can lead to unexpected adventures. 🗺️💎 Some quests are intentionally vague, inventory management can become tedious, and the Classic version lacks many of the quality-of-life improvements found in the Enhanced Edition. Even so, it's still one of the best old-school RPGs ever made. ⭐ I started trying to solve quests normally... then accidentally burned down half the battlefield and somehow that counted as a successful strategy. 😅🔥
