Immediately following the events in Doom, the player once again assumes the role of the unnamed space marine. After defeating the demon invasion of the Mars moon bases and returning from Hell, Doomguy finds that Earth has also been invaded by the demons, who have killed billions of people. The humans who survived the attack have developed a plan to build massive spaceships which will carry the remaining survivors into space. Once the ships are ready, the survivors prepare to evacuate Earth. Unfortunately, Earth's only ground spaceport gets taken over by the demons, who place a flame barrier over it, preventing any ships from leaving.

Runs well on modern hardware.

The classic level design still holds up remarkably well, and adding the Super Shotgun remains one of the best weapon additions in FPS history. A few of the later, maze-like maps lean a bit too hard into confusing layouts and cheap enemy spam, but the fundamental gunplay is timeless. It’s a nostalgic staple that every shooter fan should experience at least once.
I don't even know why this is still available when there's doom + doom 2 on steam as one game. still recommending it just because it's doom and I want it to be positively reviewed.
The new Doom + Doom 2 should have this version of The Master levels built into it. They can keep the one they have now in it's own game on there as it currently is, but they should add this version, into the Doom 2 game in it, as it is here (can choose it as a different episode, you don't go to the next level once you beat one (save for when you enter the secret level), choosing it on begin new game brings up the same menu it does here and in the original order. It might not seem like much, but it would show respect to the original game and it's creators.
