Final Fantasy IX is a 2000 role-playing video game developed and published by Square for the PlayStation video game console. It is the ninth game in the main Final Fantasy series. The plot focuses on a war between nations in a medieval fantasy world called Gaia. Players follow a thief named Zidane Tribal who kidnaps princess Garnet Til Alexandros XVII as part of a ploy by the neighboring nation of Lindblum. He joins Garnet and a growing cast of characters on a quest to take down her mother, Queen Brahne of Alexandria, who started the war.

Runs well on modern hardware.

Great game, ♥♥♥♥ port, but I have my reasons for still recommending, which I'll get to later. This version is based on the mobile phone port that made various changes to the game to help it work on phones, most of which stick out like a sore thumb. The best example of the kind of change this introduces is that you're stuck with 8 directions of movement. The original game had full analogue movement despite being on PS1 just in case you had one of the more expensive joystick controllers at the time. All around just an embarrassing port on Square Enix's behalf. I do, however, still recommend this release. Not because of Square Enix's port work of course, but because this release is what the excellent community made Memoria mod project is based in. This excellent project fixes all the issues with this port, and adds a multitude of toggleable features not present in the original, such as wide screen, higher FPS options, and a whole array of options to fully customize your experience. If that sounds great to you, go ahead and pick this up when it goes on sale, but if you want the original vanilla experience and don't like sailing the seven seas, just buy a copy of the original on Ebay or your local game store. Goes for about the same price as this port anyways.
One of the last "true" Final Fantasy games set in an actual classic fantasy setting. A great game, made even better with the Memoria Mod manager(More on that later). Party of 4 returns instead of 3 like in FF7 and FF8. The main cast of characters are probably my favourite in the series. Although the villains lack the sense of threat like Sephiroth and Kefka of FF7 and FF6, respectively. Now for the Memoria Mod installer; This amazing project has extremely simple steps to follow (Guides on how to install available) and enhances the game to a great extent. Optional cheats, 120fps, gameplay tweaks and even a visual upgrade if you install Moguri Mod (which is the only mod I installed with Memoria TBH) Overall a great game no matter which way you play it, but if the old visuals bother you then the mods do exactly what we can't trust SE to do.
We all have to live life to the fullest so that one day we can witness this magnificent stage play brought to life in a remake that will make us fall in love with this game again.
