I have close to 1000 hours in this game between pc and console. I'm plat 3 and honestly, not bad. If you like fast paced, non stop action then you might consider strive. ****IF YOU'RE A NEW PLAYER**** If this is your first fighting game, good luck. Don't give up. We need more players, please. The game is pretty simple to get into, but very complex once you understand it. The good thing for you is there's not an insane amount of clutter to learn at first. outside of knowing your moves, you have to keep track of at first is 1; meter 2: burst meter that's it.. unless you play Asuka. but don't do that to yourself. Or do, you masochist you. There's lots of characters, satisfying combos and everybody has their own fighting style and personality. they have easy characters, difficult and extremely hard characters. To put it into perspective how high the skill ceiling is, i've been playing a 4-star character(5-stars is the easiest to play) for 4 years and i still have a lot to learn. i hope you give it a try, if you do feel free to add me and i'll show you guys the ropes. @Y.G.I.C (teyemfleyes)
This will probably be my favorite fighting game forever. I've tried Street Fighter and Smash but Guilty Gear is just too sick. I manages to be a good game AND a really unique one at the same time. You can't really get that with SF when everyone is spamming drive rush and uses low medium kick. The mechanics are really cool, especially the big gimmick of roman cancels. Frame data is so important to fighting games, so why not spend some resources to just ignore it? But enough glazing. The maps in this game are really inconsistent in performance. Ignore this if you have a relevant dedicated GPU. You can be perfectly running one while another is unplayable. I know its better than nothing but someone might think they can run perfectly but once they try online their frames get halved and they're suddenly a potato playing loser. This game is hard, too. Like all fighting games, the essence of playing has a higher skill ceiling compared to more popular genres. It takes like 20 hours for someone to realize that its just chess without turns. But if you're reading this review then I guess you're interested enough. If there were better in game resources to learn that would be great. Learning matchups is a chore, too. Some things are just not as obvious as they should be and can win matches easily. Having to look up frame data is kinda a must if you want to improve. And every character is just too strong to ignore with pure fundamentals unless your adaptability is better than mahoraga. Idc about the battle pass tho. I'll get mad if they lock skins from older games behind FOMO. Overall, greatly designed game for a fighter that feels really nice to play. Sick characters too. However, learning the game is pretty rough without youtube and stuff.
I'll update it to positive if they let you try the DLC characters in training mode before buying them, until then, it's a negative review for obvious reasons. Outside of that it's pretty fun. A very simple to learn, but difficult to master fighting game. Coming from Street Fighter this is wayyy easier, but just as fun in most cases.
