HYPER DEMON

Compared to its predecessor (which is saying a LOT), Hyper Demon takes the chaos to a ridiculous level. The game shares some elements with Devil Daggers, like the dagger shooting, B-hopping and the squid & spider enemies from Devil Daggers make a return. To call this game a sequel to Devil Daggers though is just wrong. This game goes in a significantly different direction. Devil Daggers is much simpler, and focuses on you surviving as long as possible, with tons of enemies. Hyper Demon is instead about speedrunning killing everything, with fewer enemies, but these enemies are FAR more complicated than those of DD, with tons of mechanics and little gameplay interactions to play around with. One of my favourite parts about this game compared to DD is the pacing. New enemies only spawn as you kill old ones, so the game's pacing matches the player. This makes it much easier to get further, and makes getting into the gritty of it quicker once you're good. And I do need to hammer in just how complex this game is. You have the classic daggers from DD, but instead of homing daggers which use gems as ammo, you can convert gems into lasers. It's definitely easier to figure everything out in game, especially since this one has tutorials (thank god). The movement is way more in depth, the enemies have more mechanics, even the TIMER is more complex. The TIMER! Getting good at this game gets to a point of genuine addiction. Trying to get better times, pull off cooler sick tricks. I haven't beat Hyper Demon yet, and likely won't for a while, but god knows I'm gonna have a hell of a time getting there. If the game doesn't kill me first, like genuinely this game is the exact representation of what people say looks like a drug trip just LOOK AT THE GAMEPLAY

Not sure if the dev would agree, but if Devil daggers would be hell, Hyper Demon is rather a purgatory. Great mind numbing experience by all means.
