In Stars and Time is a 2023 role-playing video game developed by insertdisc5 and published by Armor Games Studios. The game takes place in the fictional country of Vaugarde, which is in the process of being frozen in time by a mysterious figure known as the King. The player controls Siffrin, a member of an adventuring party which hopes to defeat the King and save Vaugarde. Siffrin finds themself trapped in a time loop, which the player can manipulate to solve problems. The game features a turn-based combat system which is based on a rock paper scissors formula. It was based on a set of webcomics made by the developer in 2018 and short prologue in 2020 as a prototype for the final game. In Stars and Time was released in 2023 for Windows and several consoles. Critics were generally positive towards the game, praising the characters and narrative, though some took issue with the looping gameplay. Following release, it received honorable mentions for the Nuovo Award and Seumas McNally Grand Prize at the 2024 Independent Games Festival.

Runs well on modern hardware.

Stars and Time is a very slow-burner type of game. At first, I did not vibe with its writing because it is the quirkiest game I have ever played, and I have finished a lot of " Earthbound-type inspired games about depression that are not even about depression" under my belt, and I love every one of them dearly, but this one was way much stronger in the quirky writing. But giving it enough time and letting the game open up and see every kind of dialogue or reaction of the characters made me appreciate this game slowly but steadily much more. Characters I did not like from the beginning, I started to sympathise with in later chapters. The old companion lady is someone I can relate to quite a lot. Stars and Time is a strange one to recommend because you have to go through the loops over and over and over and over and feel the maddening effect on your psyche the same way as the main protagonist. (except feeling the pain of dying every time, tho lol). Maybe a small complaint is that the story is afraid to go a little bit darker and show serious consequences of the time loop, but overall, a great game that made an interesting approach to this type of storytelling and also made my eyes almost wear diapers on some occasions.
I promise I wrote a fantastic review in the first loop- and then you read it, bought the game, and disappeared from society for 3 days. When you returned, you had a peculiar look of wonder on your face, like you'd seen the stars cry. This game is a masterpiece, what are you waiting for?
In Stars and Time is a fantastic experience, but main character Siffrin is what got me obsessed. I love them dearly and played late into the night because I needed him to be okay. No promises.
