This is a very predatory gacha game. It's also a wonderful work of art. The environments are breath-taking. The clothes are each more detailed, more beautiful than the last. The animations are drop-dead beautiful. It's also a blockbuster, AAA sized live service game made by women, for women. There are so many absolutely rad women characters in this game, the default gender is "girl" whenever talking about any historical figure within the lore of the game, it's mind-breaking how much it makes you realize that your brain defaults to men when talking about a character of unspecified gender, only for you to realize later that the character was a girl all along. It's also full of very very sapphic imagery. This is extremely precious, especially in the current political climate. The devs are doing their best and listening to the community as much as they can. Every update for a while now has been bringing highly requested optimization, game-changing QoL, and better narrative and patch direction. They're listening. Game dev just takes time. The player base is a cess-pool, however. Both Global and CN is choke-full of toxicity and entitlement. This is to be expected; because the game is a gacha trying to extract value from the players, the players get into a toxic relationship with the game itself. But the players view the company (Infold) as this sort of malevolent entity making decisions trying to actively harm or spite the player-base. They regularly ignore or forget fact that Infold is a collection of individual, regular human employees doing their best to make this game the best it can be, under the extreme strain of live service production and constraints stemming from tight schedules and financial considerations from upper management. The grievances and recriminations never cease. They're trying to strong-arm and blackmail the devs in order to force them to make the game fit what they want. They play the game way past the point where they're having fun, then blame the game, because live-service games encourage unhealthy relationships to the medium. This is a beautiful work of art. The free to play storyline/content is peak; it's a dress-up platforming exploration JRPG, like a cross between Mario Odyssey, Breath of the Wild and Love Nikki, but at the end of the 1.0 storyline you kill a god. The worldbuilding is dark and goofy and deep and wonderful but often badly communicated. It's messy but there is so much light and soul and beauty within this game. The level artists are god-like. The 3D artists are absolutely cracked. You can build your own home and the controls used to suck but they're pretty good now! They just keep making everything better, little by little. It's really good. Play this at your own risk, but if you're not susceptible to dark patterns... Just play the F2P storyline. Nothing about it is paywalled in any way. There are so much free clothes. Make outfits. Take photos. Read the lore. It ♥♥♥♥♥. This game ♥♥♥♥♥.
okay after playing this game since launch (1.6 years) , i think its finally time i write a review for it, first of all this game is literally a dream come true for me, everything about it feels like its made for me, it is so whimsical and magical. the best way to describe it is, its those old animated barbie movies but as a game. When the whole 1.5 version disaster happened i had lowkey lost hopes in this game and was worried about its future BUT they have redeemed themselves so good, the entirety of itzaland story and region has been SOOOO good. The story feels lot more serious with heavy topics compared to wishfield. Itzaland is a very very gorgeous place , the music has been LITERALLY SO GOOD its actually ridiculous, the characters are very well written and explored and i actually feel attached to them. they keep getting better and better with each version so im really excited for the future updates and new regions. but i will say the game still has its flaws, like poor optimization, though they have been improving on that with each update. and also im still very pissed about changing of the introduction part that happened during 1.5, its simply not good and very very confusing to new players.(if you are a new player or thinking of playing infinity nikki please watch the old introduction video on youtube first, it will give you a lot more context to the story and characters) i will still keep asking them to bring back the older introuction part of the game. And thats all, i would really recommend for people to try out this game, i think this game is one of its kind mixing dress up elements with a good story, world building and open world. and if you are worried about the gacha part of the game, its literally irrelevant to the story, you can just play the game normally and ignore the whole gacha part. also there are so many bad reviews currently by players of another game by infold due to some controversy, which has nothing to do with infinity nikki.
TLDR: I DO NOT recommend this game because it stinks of greed and retconned a perfectly fine (in my opinion) introduction to the game I originally pre-registered and played the game after downloading from the official website so I do have a lot more time compared to what it says here on Steam. Originally, I was so excited to play the game as I had previously played both Miracle Nikki and Shining Nikki. Dress-Up games are really fun in my opinion, and I'm also a big fan of open world exploration games that also focus on story, so this was right up my alley. When I first started, I did have a lot of fun! It was a bit laggy, but my pc lags with other games too so I wasn't bothered by it. I played up until 1.5 before taking a long break due to being a bit burnt out. Part of why I was burnt out was due to the fact that they completely retconned the original introduction to the game. I know that there were players complaining about the story not focusing as much on Nikki, but it felt very weird to me that they would completely redo the original introduction. Personally, I liked the original a lot (I may be biased since I'm a day 1 player) and I feel it would have made more sense for them to just make a chapter that will start focusing on her more. Another reason as to why I was burnt out was because I started feeling like the game was becoming more pay to win. As a player who was completely free to play, making progress in story and in events felt VERY difficult. Yes, there are many ways to earn diamonds to get new pieces of clothing (through said quests, events and even world exploration), but even then you aren't guaranteed to get every single piece you want within a reasonable amount of pulls. I was constantly struggling to get pieces from certain themes because of this, and it resulted in me having to take weeks just to get barely enough points for styling contests. On another note, this doesn't really have to do anything with progress, but it felt really odd to me that they added the ability to change colors of clothing without getting duplicates of said clothing. Once again I was f2p, but I know so many people have spent money on the game to get a fully complete outfit for the recolors. What was the point in having these recolors that you could only get by pulling more in a banner, only to release a way to recolor clothes on your own? While also making you pay real money just to unlock every single color. It stinks of greed, and it makes me feel bad for the people that DID spend money on this game.
