Katawa Shoujo is a bishōjo-style visual novel by Four Leaf Studios that tells the story of a young man and five young women living with varying disabilities. The game uses a traditional text and sprite-based visual novel model with an ADV-style text box running on the Ren'Py visual novel engine. The game is licensed under the Creative Commons CC-BY-NC-ND.

Runs well on modern hardware.

Seeing Katawa Shoujo on steam after so many years was like finding a box of photos, journals, toys and other memorabilia from your childhood in your attic. Even after so many years, the emotional ties I've built with this VN are impossible to cut. And it brought a tear to my eye to launch it again and have a proper walkthrough of all the storylines. I'm not going to go into any specifics, as I believe that people should experience all the nuances of Katawa on their own, I'll just sum it up the following way: As a young man, this game taught me how be a sincere person, how to love, express myself, be honest and why it's important not to bottle up all of your emotions. How to ask for help and not being arrogant and showing your support when others are in need. It gave me so much context and ideas for interacting with people in a healthy, mutually respectful manner, that it still holds up in the way I build my relationships to this day. If I ever have a child, I'll encourage them to read Katawa Shoujo, not in the hope of teaching them something, per se, but to hopefully inspire them to discover themselves and put them on the path of self-discovery and self-improvement.
bizarro o quanto a escrita consegue ser boa... triste que é difícil de convencer outras pessoas a lerem isso aqui kkkkkkk
I held off this game when I first heard about it back in 2024. That is until I heard of its Steam release in 2025 and I gave it a try where I managed to get through the prologue. Certain circumstances made me unable to continue after but starting again now, I shouldn't have shelved it. Never in my VN playthroughs have I ever felt deeply attached to the entire main cast. This game was a game changer to me and even after finally completing all the good endings by the time I write this, I still feel I should continue and start craving for more. Truly, it's worth your time and you should definitely take it slow (I didn't). Although some routes feel shorter than others, it gives you an ample amount of time to be able to digest everything where it satisfies you. Despite that, it has definitely left an everlasting impression on me and I'm glad to have finally finished it. (P.S Rin's the best girl)
