Left 4 Dead is a 2008 first-person shooter game developed by Valve South and published by Valve. It was originally released for Windows and Xbox 360 in November 2008 and for Mac OS X in October 2010, and is the first title in the Left 4 Dead series. Set during the aftermath of a zombie outbreak on the East Coast of the United States, the game pits its four protagonists, dubbed the "Survivors", against hordes of the infected.

Runs well on modern hardware.

A high 8 out of 10 in my book. I remember first playing the Original 2008 game on my friend's XBOX 360 back in the day & would always go to his house after school to play it almost every day. Good times. On Steam, I accidentally bought this version of the game alongside Left 4 Dead 2 as a bundle when it was on sale, as I didn't know Left 4 Dead 2 already included Left 4 Dead 1. When I found out it was too late to request a refund & is pretty much permanent in my Steam Library, however, sometimes in life there are no accidents as over time I came to really enjoy the Original Left 4 Dead 1 2008 game. Just like in my previous review for Left 4 Dead 2, it's an addictive First-Person Co-Operative Zombie Shooter game, very fun & immersive to play with friends. Only difference is, this particular version of Left 4 Dead 1 stays true to the original experience of the game that came out for the XBOX 360 back in late 2008. No Melee weapons or the Magnum pistol, just good old fashion original Level 1 Weapons in the like the Pump Shotgun, Uzi Submachine Gun, & the Dual-Wielding pistols as presented by Zoey in the cutscene intro. You're also limited to just 3 original Level 2 Weapons like the Hunting Rifle, M16 Assault Rifle, & my personal favorite the Auto Shotgun. Infinite Melee shoves & you can actually see your legs in First-Person unlike Left 4 Dead 2 just to add to that. Original game is also much more challenging on harder difficulties like Advanced or Expert mode with little content like the absence of Adrenaline Shots, Boomer Biles, or Defibrillators which helped me get through my Achievement journey on Expert mode in Left 4 Dead 2. Once you die, you're going to stay dead for a little longer as the only way to spawn back into the game is the nearest closet, but that's what makes the Original 2008 experience a lot more fun & interesting is the challenge itself, which has grown on me the more I play it. Fight your way to survive against hordes of zombies & five original special infecteds like the Smoker, vomiting Boomer, agile Hunter, dreadful Witch, & the roid rage hulk like zombie Tank, in all 6 original campaigns like the creepy hospital atmosphere of No Mercy, Crash Course, the graveyard of Death Toll, unlicensed zombie pilots in Dead Air, the dreaded farmland of Blood Harvest, & The Sacrifice. Note: That the campaign for original survivors "The Last Stand" is ONLY available on Left 4 Dead 2. Bonus Note: In the Original 2008 game, don't set the Tank on fire with either a Molotov or Gas cans UNLESS you REALLY need to, because once on fire, the Tank will become a lot faster & more aggressive. So, it's highly advised you keep as much distance as possible from you & the Tank unless you want to get knocked off a building on the finale of No Mercy (Speaking from Experience) The downside about this version of the game is that not a lot of people play it, but you'll definitely get some good full lobby games in no time, it just takes a little bit longer for people to join your game if you're hosting it. Average Steam player count for the Original 2008 game ranges about around 500+ casually, whereas Left Dead 2 Steam player count ranges about 20K - 30K & sometimes on a really good day 40K+ players. I'd definitely recommend this version to anyone who's interested in experiencing the Original Left 4 Dead 2008 game & want to take a break from the Left 4 Dead 2 version.
Greatest co op/multiplayer in the history of video games. I've spent 25k hours of my life on this game on Xbox and now on PC. I never get sick of it.
no matter which Left 4 Dead i play, i need to shoot my friend and piss him off. Fun game btw.
