Lisa is a quirky side-scrolling RPG set in a post-apocalyptic wasteland. Beneath the charming and funny exterior is a world full of disgust and moral destruction. Players will learn what kind of person they are by being FORCED to make choices. These choices permanently effect the game play. If you want to save a party member from death, you will have to sacrifice the strength of your character. Whether it's taking a beating for them, or chopping off limbs, or some other inhuman way. You will learn that in this world being selfish and heartless is the only way to survive...

Runs well on modern hardware.

I played the first hour of this at an old friend's house back in 2019 and it hooked me pretty quickly, I ended up buying it for myself during the pandemic and 100%ing the whole thing. LISA The Painful has one of the best ludo-narratives I've seen, the gameplay and how it makes you feel is connected to the game's world and story incredibly well - Olathe is a disgusting, ludicrous, and dangerous place, and all the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ the game throws at you reflects that in a way that feels genuine somehow. Only negative aspect for me is the Joyful DLC, it feels quite half-baked compared to Painful, both in its gameplay and plot. At the same time, I don't think the game would feel complete without it, so idk.
Finished this game many years ago, still thinks about it weekly, I try to make everyone I care about discover it, not all are willing to give it a try sadly, so here am I giving gospell to random people, if you can go through the stylised visuals, rough themes and not against soft RPG elements, go for it without hesitation. Trully an experience.
This game was one of the worst video game experiences I've ever had. It punishes you all of the time. There are very few things that make you happy. However, it truly embodies the feelings of desolation and despair that one would feel in a post apocalyptic world. The feeling of addiction. Pain. Depression. It's wonderful. I hated every second of it. You should play this game.
