Loop Hero is a roguelike video game developed by Russian studio Four Quarters and published by Devolver Digital in 2021. The game takes place in a randomly generated world where the player changes the world by placing cards instead of directly controlling a character. The game was initially released in March 2021 for Linux, macOS, and Windows.

Runs well on modern hardware.

I would recommend this game, but with reservations. I think it does a good job at packaging the typical modern auto-playing grindfest game in a way that seems novel and very cool. At the same time, the game still has the weakness of feeling like "this is all just simply one big materials grind, I'm just repeating the same thing to get my numbers to go up." I kind of wish that you weren't penalized every time you try to seriously do a run where you attempt to clear a boss, it encourages the player to just grind the maps over and over, as opposed to more classic roguelikes like Shiren the Wanderer where you always benefit by giving every attempt your best shot. Aside from that, I also think the sound design leaves a lot to be desired. Most of the music feels like filler, I wish it lent the game more character, or had music that was more memorable. That's also kind of leaving a big hole in the game's presentation, which generally I really like, but it's missing something. I think others may play this game and feel the same thing but perhaps not understand why. This is still a pretty solid 6/10 grindfest game that is worth checking out for it's novelty and really good art.
recommended by friend, 3 bucks on discount great game, great soundtrack, beautiful pixel art at times frustrating due to the combination of rng + trying to figure out whats what and whats good, but very satisfying once you figured out a proper setup your character probably the best game I played to just alt tab and do 2nd monitor stuff while gaming
very repetitive and a weird system where the player is making the game harder by "doing something" most of the grinding content is forced, it just feels not correctly balanced as most of the gear is luck based and doesnt give any feedback to players regarding how to change this loot (random stats on gear, random amount of drops and no chances shown based on player made changes (enemy amount, types of enemies, etc) and the other side is placing cards to "finish the run" but placing them nearly always has a negative effect unless your farming for X item or are later in the game and can turn it into a positive effect (a card gives faster days passing=more enemy spawns but can be combod with heal per day so multiple "days" pass per battle for heals) (the game forces you to have these cards but you can choose to not place them which helps you quite alot so a good strategy is just to farm oblivions and the GOOD cards and not place the rest) (bosses are also like nearly always easier to kill than actual enemy spawns unless your massively reducing enemies) overall balancing feels weird as it punishes newbies(as placing cards is meant to help and not harm), doesnt let you understand the system, only synergys are good, 80% of the "synergies" are hidden from you(hidden card combos) and unless you already understand most of it your going to either have to grind or struggle alot but when you understand it, the game is stupidly easy and just feels padded out what I truly hate about this game is that they make you grind for seems useless and couldve been avoided if the game just told you ANYTHING but it hides nearly everything and gate locks everything else
