This game is an absolute gem, and very confidently sets itself apart from everything else in its genre. The love and care from its developers oozes from every second, every asset, every line of dialogue. It convinces you from the very first second, and I couldn't WAIT to write a review on it - the devs deserve every piece of love and praise. Lost and Found Co. builds on a solid foundation - a charming Hidden Object mechanic featuring both obvious and very hidden things; its difficulty level is entirely decided on how you interact with it. It offers a solid two-stage hint system, offering charming riddles on its first stage that keep the mystery while giving a helpful nudge in the right direction. Following the genre, it has some objects hidden behind interactions - opening cupboards, fulfilling small puzzle sections, or removing the disguise of some sneaky ninja kids. Additionally, there are three stages of objects: Main Story required ones (which show you a small picture of the object as you will find it in the world), optional Side Content (described in a small task-item revealing its general direction), and a hidden collectible (found purely by being observant while searching for other things). The hidden aspect especially is very interesting to me, because - while it does not count for any achievement (in or out of game) - it offers you an equivalent currency to get second-stage hints. This mechanic is incredibly satisfying, rewarding you actually engaging with the game and its stages. The hint currency also carries over, meaning you can play to your strengths, or breeze through the bigger stages if you require. This description alone would probably make for a great game in its genre already, but Lost and Found Co. offers so much more. Split into several "Main Story" Stages, it offers a cohesive and intriguing narrative that carries you from one gameplay moment to another. Each object has its relevance and is placed into context for the overarching plot. The writing is incredibly charming: While featuring lots of well-written humour, it also presents a pressing and important challenge to its characters, and allows for a grandiose ending. It is kept light-hearted - a story for all ages, I would think - but tackles a problem that is believably significant for its cast. On top of the Main Stages, various Side Stories become available as you progress. These can, and for me have, halted Main Story progress (as they are semi-required to unlock the next Main Story), but are equally fun as the Main Story Stages. Their difficulty ranges from quick, small stages, to some incredibly broad and hectic levels that had me searching for a good hour or so x) But even when played as short bursts, they can provide delightful entertainment. The presentation of this game is very appealing as well. Each object in the stages has adorable animations, and all levels feature a bright, saturated setting with memorable landmarks. The story is conveyed via short, adorable Visual Novel sections that feature multiple unique portraits for every main & supporting cast member. All portraits are incredibly expressive and the small animations really enhance the vibe. Furthermore, each level is bookended by a short cutscene, told in animated comic panels. In short, the art direction of this game is a very cohesive, enticing package that sets the mood, and delights at the same time. All in all, this game is a treat and absolutely worth the recommendation. It's clear a lot of thought, care and polish went into this title, and - with an adorable cast of characters, a gripping story, and of course a very solid and befitting gameplay loop -, this game is a must-play for fans of the genre. Frankly, it exceeded all my expectations set by its genre-neighbours, and it was a magical journey all throughout. As a completionist, grabbing achievements in this game was a very refreshing, low-stakes experience that rewards a good eye, without ever breaking into tedium. I'm almost annoyed that I will most likely not find anything even remotely comparable in the near future - but equally honoured to have experienced such a masterpiece in its genre. Ducky, Mei and Kit have really grown on me, and I do hope to see them again soon in future updates? (im not begging, you are!) Either way, Thank you so so much, dear devs, for creating this gem. What a delight!
Lost and Found Co. is everything I've always wanted from a hidden object game. This isn't the "find the item and move on" gameplay you're used to. The amount of content you get for the price is incredible. Alongside the hidden object gameplay, there's a great story, shopping for objects to build and decorate your room, and one of the best hint systems I've seen in the genre. One of my favorite details is how interactive the environments are. Almost every object you click reacts in some way, whether it's an animation, a sound effect, or both. Every level feels so alive and when you're playing, it's hard to look away. I loved the Instapix feature that saves photos with in-game celebrities inspired by real people, along with all the references to other games and movies hidden throughout the levels. It always made me wonder what reference I'd see next. The variety between locations is fantastic. Every level feels different, and many of them have multiple areas to explore, interiors to enter, or even day and night versions that change what you can find. This is one of those games that sticks with you after you finish it. If you enjoy hidden object games, don't skip this one. It's one of the best I've played.
I've never been someone who is into hidden object games but this is probably the first and only hidden objects game I've truly loved and enjoyed and I hope to see more games by the devs in the future like this one! It's really fun to find all of the objects and the different little side quest bonuses too. This game really deserves it's high praise and overwhelming positive reviews. Probably the best hidden objects game that has ever released (in my opinion). I have tried some others in the past but they never truly kept my attention going until this one.
