Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy is a 2021 action-adventure game developed by Eidos-Montréal and originally published by Square Enix. Set in an original universe based on the Marvel Comics superhero team of the same name, the game's plot follows the Guardians who, while attempting to capture a beast for a wealthy collector, inadvertently trigger a catastrophe which threatens the peace of the galaxy. The player controls the team's self-proclaimed leader, Star-Lord, and issues commands to other Guardians including Drax the Destroyer, Gamora, Rocket Raccoon and Groot. At certain points in the game, the player makes key decisions via dialogue trees that affect the relationships between Guardians and change the outcome of missions.

Runs well on modern hardware.
Verdict
👍 Recommended Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy (2021) is a game I enjoyed mostly for the presentation: the visuals are great and the OST is packed with banger songs. I finished it in 15 hours, but the story felt MID to me and the gameplay is not something I want to replay a second time. It also has this “integrity” where the dialogues and the overall feeling can come off pretty cringe — sometimes it was unbearable. And the epilogue plus credits felt endless… I was just waiting for the game to finally let me turn it off. Still, I recommend it for regular players, and especially for people who love Marvel.
My history with the game

Finished the game
Playtime: 15 hours
Not planning a second playthrough
Recommended for most players and Marvel fans

Quick signals
💸 Value: ✅ Strong if you vibe with Marvel banter and music, weaker if you want deep gameplay 🖥️ Requirements: ✅ Medium (Steam minimum: i5-4460 or Ryzen 5 1400, GTX 1060 6GB or RX 570, 8GB RAM, 80GB storage) 🎨 Graphics: ✅ One of the best parts for me (great visual presentation) 📖 Story: ✅ Cinematic and character-driven, but MID for me 🎮 Difficulty: ✅ Mostly accessible action-adventure (not a hardcore game) 🐛 Bugs: ✅ No major issues for me ⏱️ Length: ✅ Commonly around 15–20 hours for main story, my run was 15
What I liked

Visuals were the highlight for me
OST is stacked with banger tracks, and the game also has its own score and music identity
It’s an easy recommendation if you like Marvel-style characters and vibe

What didn’t work for me

Story felt MID
Gameplay is not something I want to replay
Dialogues and overall feeling can be very cringe, sometimes unbearable
Epilogue and credits felt endless and I was just waiting to be allowed to quit

Is it an endless game? How long to beat?
Not endless — it’s a linear, story-driven action-adventure with a clear ending. My playthrough took 15 hours. Many sources put the main story around the mid-to-high teens for hours, depending on pace and exploration.
Who will love it

Marvel fans who want a long, playable Guardians-style adventure
Players who care more about visuals, music, and character banter than deep gameplay systems
People who want a straightforward singleplayer campaign in a sci-fi action-adventure style

Replay value

Medium for most people if they want to re-experience the story, music, and banter
Low for me personally, because the story felt MID and the gameplay doesn’t make me want a second run
Fantastic game Such a good game I had 0 expectations going in, negative actually - my god this game is fantastic! Charm, soul, wit, humour, good writing, good gameplay 9 Maxes/10
Originally played in 2023, but have replayed just recently for the hell of it and it's as fun as I remember it being Pros: - Funny, charming and exciting with it's own take on the GOTG comics rather than doing an MCU spin - Combat is simple but fun, with decent enemy variety and new mechanics throughout - Great soundtrack (as expected really) especially when you perform a Huddle (which grants a big party buff depending on your speech) - Story is fun, sweet and touching at times; had me tearing up with Drax's scenes, and the characterisation of all the core characters is really good and the chemistry and banter is top notch - An incredible amount of voiced dialogue, like there are constant party lines being said in missions and on the ship; I was blown away (and the VO is excellent) - Game is gorgeous, especially the different environments on all the planets you visit CONS: - Combat can feel pretty floaty and awkward at times, and some enemies/bosses can feel pretty spongey - Sometimes the voiced dialogue will often cancel out due to the sheer number of lines that get queued up, and if you walk even one step too far they'll cut the current conversation for a new line - I personally had a lot of performance issues on PC (which I don't remember having in my 1st run so Idk what happened there) and some bugs Overall it's a really solid game, way better than I ever thought it would be since it came out off the back of the awful Avengers game. Sadly we won't get a sequel cause this didn't perform well as far as I am aware (probably did better over time as people found out it isn't ♥♥♥♥ like Avengers), which is a shame cause there's plenty opportunity there.
