Monster Hunter: World is a 2018 action role-playing game developed and published by Capcom. The fifth mainline installment in the Monster Hunter series, it was released worldwide for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in January 2018, with a Windows version following in August 2018. In the game, the player takes the role of a Hunter, tasked to hunt down and either kill or trap monsters that roam in one of several environmental spaces. If successful, the player is rewarded through loot consisting of parts from the monster and other elements that are used to craft weapons and armor, amongst other equipment. The game's core loop has the player crafting appropriate gear to be able to hunt down more difficult monsters, which in turn provide parts that lead to more powerful gear. Players may hunt alone or in a group of up to four players via the game's online multiplayer.

Runs well on modern hardware.

While I loved its hunting mechanics and the realistic ecosystem design, I ended up dropping it after only a few hours because of the overwhelming weapon variety and the online-focused structure. Recently, I decided to give the game another chanceโand surprisingly, the very things that once pushed me away became the exact reasons I fell in love with it. This game is truly a masterpiece. As someone who has at least some real-life hunting experience, I honestly believe that even if you remove all of the fantasy elements, Monster Hunter: World could still be considered one of the best hunting simulators ever made. The systems are simulated so well that even hunting the same monster multiple times can create completely different stories and experiences worth talking about. The weapon system, which once felt confusing and intimidating to learn, became one of the gameโs greatest strengths for me. With more than ten unique weapon types, every hunt can feel entirely different depending on what you choose to master. Once I finally gave myself the time to properly learn them, each weapon opened the door to a completely new playstyle and experience. The online aspect of the game was another major reason I kept playing all the way into the late game. The community is genuinely helpful and welcoming. Players are willing to teach new hunters, answer questions, and help others improve throughout the game. After defeating Fatalis and helping dozens of other players defeat it as well, I finally decided it was time to stop delaying this review and write it. Even if you previously tried the game and dropped it like I did, I strongly recommend pushing yourself at least until you finish the Low Rank quests. If I hadnโt given the game a second chance, I would have missed one of the best games Iโve ever played. An absolutely incredible experience.
Love the game. Clueless on most of the mechanics but I'm enjoying them, nonetheless. I'm afraid of the pickle..
one of those games with open mic by default so you might occasionally find yourself in lobbies filled with facebook notifications & coughing
