If you're expecting this game to be something similar to ULTRAKILL, just like I was, you might want to rethink about it. This game is actually a time-trial platformer built around trial and error. The goal is to shave off every possible millisecond from your run to get the highest score. That's fun if you enjoy improving your own times. My biggest issue is that there's basically one "correct" route to get the best score, so there's not much room to be creative. The good thing is that the game lets you fast-forward through all the dialogue, so you can jump straight back into the challenges. It's a fun game, indeed, but it may not be for everyone.
Neon White is about finishing levels as fast as you can while clearing demons at each level. You'll get an ace medal if you do it fast enough. And there are some cards you can pick up from the ground. They all have their own abilities. We have pistols, smgs, shotguns... And they all have M1 and M2 versions. M1 is using the gun normally. M2 is where things get fun. From jump boost to instant dash. There is a lot of variety. You lose your card when you use M2, though. The game demands calculated but fast gameplay. I also love the fact that you'll get rewarded if you think outside of the box. Don't just follow the path you're given. Observe. Improvise. Create your own shortcuts. Neon White encourages you to master the level before you move on to the next. There were a few mechanics I didn't like, but that's just a me issue. This game is a must-buy if you like some DnB, because Machine Girl cooked with this one. Although I like fast-paced gameplay, the music was the main reason I got this game. The ost and gameplay match very well. Sometimes it makes me want to catch up to the flow, it's basically spectacular. Having such great music adds a lot to the ambience too. I wanted to know more about the universe just because of the vibes. Even though I liked most of the soundtracks, Pendulum definitely stands out to me. 10/10 As for the universe, it is decent. I wish we could interact with the world more, especially in the hub. I wanted to know more about the people around me, but the game doesn't offer you much. I guess you can unlock special missions with side characters if you collect gifts(?), but I don't like the gift system. I try to ace every level but I don't want to replay just for gifts. It would've been better if we could get them simply by shooting.
It's fast, the OST is banging and the hint system is so well-designed to make you want to get better times. I didn't mind the dialogs too much but I do think there are too much of them if you're going for the 100%. Highly recommend, it's great!
