Nine Sols is a 2024 action-platform game developed and published by Red Candle Games. The game is set in an Asian fantasy-inspired futuristic world which Red Candle Games describes as "taopunk", a combination of Taoism and cyberpunk, stating that “[they] had a clear goal of combining Taoism with cyberpunk, melding sci-fi elements with Eastern mythology." In gameplay, combat emphasizes the player deflecting attacks from enemies to build up energy to perform special attacks. It features a hand-drawn animation style. The game was released on Microsoft Windows and macOS on May 29, 2024, which was followed by home console ports on November 26. On the same day, a major patch was released, introducing a boss rush style gamemode called "battle memories".

Runs well on modern hardware.

What a beautiful game, Its world setting is just as good as HK, Boss fights are 2nd to none and the best in metroidvania genre has to offer. Parry system is top notch with 3 diff types of parrying and they all feel just right to use, last half of Nine sols playthrough is where it shines the most, so stick with the game for a while cause it only gets better.
Nine Sols is a beautiful piece of art, The games it self deserve to be more recognize like HollowKnight or even Silksong, The story, The gameplay, The soundtrack for this game, it's all truly the masterpiece from RedCandleGames. from what i see people is struggle with the parry gameplay and just drop the game and yes i can understand that. Nine sols itself is really a difficult game and not a everyone cup of tea but for who can and wanted to try Nine sols will teach you a step by step through the enemy and bosses, and once you can overcome that learning curve of that enemy and bosses, it will be your nature to just easily beat them next time, each of them teach you to be patience, reactive, precisely, and engage them with perceptively not just go in and spam attack till they dead and after the progress with the game the final boss will be the test for the thing you learn for the whole game and it truly speak for itself for how great the combat in this game are. The world building and lore is craft with love. I really can't remember the last time I enjoy the game in every aspect of it but for now Nine Sols is that game. This is hands down the best visuals stunning metroidvania I ever seen since both Ori blind forest and will of the wisp, at first i was doubt this game for what I'm gonna see but when the main menu start up and the song start playing, I knew, i already knew that this game is one of the best, one of the gem i been missing out for all this years and I'm so glad i found it. The games itself didn't force the world building lore into player but leave it with note and document that you can pick up to read instead which is why if you are a lore reader this game will provide you with some of the best world building that might won your heart, you will see how beautiful The solarian and Penglai really are. Soundtrack that stuck to my ear till today, music for us human is a way to expresses that which cannot be put into the word and Nine Sols is a proof of that sentence. Lot of soundtrack in the boss or some area and cutscene in the game if you listen carefully you will notice the Leitmotifs of the game which will lead the way you feel in that moment and for that Leitmotifs alone make this game just won my hearth over and over again, and yes there's a lot that doesn't have Leitmotifs and still really good soundtrack, it's fit with the world building and stuff goin around on that scene which lead to why in my opinion make a story in this game 10/10 The story itself broke my heart and make me cry dozen of time. Nine sols isn't like HollowKnight or Darksouls when it come to the story, instead it present you straight forward through the cutscene and dialog from character but for each dialog you see and read it really can make you engage in it without feeling force by the game, the dialog feel smooth and natural, it feel alive i would say, and combine it with lore and story and you will get one of the most beautiful piece of art in gaming industry. The story of Nine sols for me can be descript by this "Nine Sols is a beautiful tragedy, a tragedy about race, about sister and brother, about friends, about the one who love and beloved, about the one who awaited dead, about the one who face away from their mistake, about the one who carve a path, for us all" I wish to see more RedCandleGames make a game in Solarain universe more, I really want to see much much more of the world building even after i read all comic and watch summery of ARG for this game it still wasn't enough for me but I just gonna let RedCandleGames do their own things, I trust in them and believe we will see some peak games like this more in the future. Thanks you RedCandleGames, Thanks you Nine sols, Until destiny reunites us. -- play the game play the game play the game play the game play the game play the game play the game play the game do i really need to tell you more? go play the game, yeah it's furry and what some of them is kindda hot what can i say. now go play the game
Highly enjoyable. Biggest positive: excellent in-game map that gradually fills in even within individual rooms. Other positives: theme, art, combat. I like how the lore bits throw a bunch of words at you that you don't understand, but as you become more familiar with the game's world, you naturally start to piece together the big picture. Biggest negative: poor QOL (some non-rebindable keyboard controls, unskippable cutscenes, having to first teleport to the central node before teleporting anywhere else resulting in an unnecessary extra loading screen). Other negatives: some (2) crashes, being too close to enemies can make them change their attack directions randomly
