Nine Sols is a 2024 action-platform game developed and published by Red Candle Games. The game is set in an Asian fantasy-inspired futuristic world which Red Candle Games describes as "taopunk", a combination of Taoism and cyberpunk, stating that “[they] had a clear goal of combining Taoism with cyberpunk, melding sci-fi elements with Eastern mythology." In gameplay, combat emphasizes the player deflecting attacks from enemies to build up energy to perform special attacks. It features a hand-drawn animation style. The game was released on Microsoft Windows and macOS on May 29, 2024, which was followed by home console ports on November 26. On the same day, a major patch was released, introducing a boss rush style gamemode called "battle memories".

Runs well on modern hardware.

I enjoyed this game a lot. It feels like a mix of Sekiro and Hollow Knight. The art direction is gorgeous and gives the game a lot of personality. The OST is good, though it wasn't the most memorable part of the experience. The final boss, however, was absolutely incredible—easily one of the best boss fights I've ever faced. If you enjoy challenging action games with tight combat and beautiful visuals, this is definitely worth playing.
what a masterpiece. a beautiful, emotional story, challenging but rewarding combat, and stunning art. this game has it all. truly one of the best games i've ever played.
After (almost) two full playthroughts to get all the achievements, I think that I can finally write a review on this game. First of all, I will say some recomendations from the gameplay: If you like games with parry mechanics this is your game, because the parry will be your best friend. Also, if you strugle with metroidvanias, or if you think that the game is very dificult, there is a game mode that lets you customize the amounts of damage that you receive, and the damage that you do to enemies, making the game very accesible to every person that wants to see the story of this piece of art. Now that I gave those clarifications, I want to talk about the story itself without making spoilers. The world construction in this game its something that isn´t very common in games like this, because you enter to this game expecting something, and those thoughts constantlly changes while you progress in the story, and by the endgame everything that you knew most likely changed entirely. The characters were well written, and after some hours you must have grown fond of some of them. From the music, to the characters story, and the beliefs system that some of these had, you can see the inspiration that the taiwanese culture had on this game development. Having close to zero knowledge about Taiwan before playing this game, I now feel curious about knowing more about taiwanese culture in the future. You can see that the developers really loved making this game. Also, if you like difficult fights in games, there are some really hard bossfights. I spent almost five hours beating the real final boss, and finally doing it felt really rewarding. In conclusion, if you like metroidvanias, play this; if you want a game with good stoy, play this; if you like asian inspired content, play this; and if you PC is a potato, play this. If my PC ran this game (almost) without lag in max graffic settings, I doubt that yours will have problems. 10/10 game, would play again.
