Where the original was intimate, elegant, and quietly moving, this sequel feels broader in scope, deeper in mechanics, and more ambitious in storytelling without losing the delicate soul that defined the first journey. The original Planet of Lana was remarkable for its minimalism — a beautifully crafted adventure driven by atmosphere, companionship, and environmental storytelling. Planet of Lana II preserves that identity, but evolves it with greater complexity, stronger narrative momentum, and a world that feels even more alive and mysterious. A Deeper Story with Higher Emotional Stakes While the first game focused on survival, wonder, and the bond between Lana and her companion, Planet of Lana II builds on those themes with a more layered emotional journey. The story feels more mature, exploring not just connection and resilience, but memory, consequence, sacrifice, and the lingering impact of what came before. The narrative remains elegantly told through visual storytelling, animation, and environmental design rather than excessive dialogue, but the emotional weight lands even harder here. The quiet moments feel more reflective, the tension feels more urgent, and the stakes feel greater. Compared to the first game’s beautifully intimate simplicity, the sequel feels bolder while still preserving its emotional subtlety. A World That Feels Larger, Stranger, and More Alive One of the most immediate evolutions is the world itself. The original delivered breathtaking alien landscapes and a hauntingly beautiful sense of wonder, but Planet of Lana II expands that vision significantly. Environments feel more varied, more dynamic, and more layered with meaning — from lush natural beauty to more mysterious, ancient, and technologically complex spaces. The world carries stronger narrative presence, often telling its own story through ruins, environmental details, and visual symbolism. On PC, the art direction remains absolutely stunning. The painterly aesthetic that made the first game so memorable returns, but feels even more refined, with richer lighting, denser detail, smoother animation, and greater environmental depth. Expanded Gameplay Without Losing Elegance One of the sequel’s greatest strengths is how it expands gameplay while preserving the elegance of the original. The first game excelled through simple but thoughtful puzzle-platforming. Planet of Lana II evolves those foundations with more layered environmental puzzles, deeper interactions, and greater variety in traversal and problem-solving. There is more mechanical depth, but never at the cost of pacing or accessibility. The game still values observation, rhythm, and creativity over brute challenge, preserving the meditative quality that made the first adventure so compelling. It feels like a natural evolution rather than a reinvention. The Companion Dynamic Feels Even Stronger The bond between Lana and her companion was the emotional heart of the first game, and the sequel deepens that relationship beautifully. Interactions feel more nuanced, mechanics built around companionship feel more integrated, and the emotional resonance of that connection feels even stronger. What was already one of the most charming aspects of the original becomes even more meaningful here. This is one of the clearest examples of the sequel improving directly on what already worked. Outstanding Atmosphere and Sound Design If the first game was atmospheric, Planet of Lana II feels positively immersive. The sound design is extraordinary, from environmental ambience to subtle creature sounds and beautifully restrained music that enhances emotion without overwhelming it. The soundtrack once again plays a huge role in shaping the tone, but now carries even greater emotional and cinematic presence. Like the original, silence is used just as effectively as music — and that restraint remains one of the series’ greatest strengths. Why It Surpasses the Original in Key Ways What makes Planet of Lana II so impressive is that it does not simply repeat the first game with prettier visuals. It expands the world. It deepens the mechanics. It raises the emotional stakes. It strengthens the storytelling. And it evolves the companion dynamic in meaningful ways. Where the first game felt like a beautiful, intimate fable, the sequel feels like that vision fully realized at a grander scale. That is a rare achievement. Final Verdict Planet of Lana II is a stunning sequel that preserves the beauty, emotion, and elegance of the original while expanding nearly every aspect with confidence and care. It is richer, deeper, and more ambitious, yet never loses the quiet magic that made the first game unforgettable. A must-play for fans of cinematic platformers, emotional storytelling, and artistic adventure games — Planet of Lana II is a rare sequel that doesn’t just honor its predecessor… it surpasses it.
A thalassophobic friend had to stop watching my stream as the phenomenal sound design in one section was giving her anxiety, so I'm putting that up for awareness. Blew through it in an evening, will go back for secrets later. It was extremely charming but those zappy bois are the bane of my existence. More emphasis on perfect timing than the last, which I did not enjoy. The experience as a whole was still lovely.
Amazing followup to a great first game. Expanded movement options, larger story. Sound design and music is top knotch. A truly great game.
