I am a massive fan of pixel art style games and when I saw REPLACED, I bought it as soon as I could. The whole concept of the game captivated me and game me major "UPGRADE" and "BLADERUNNER" vibes. I couldn't wait to play it! Sadly, I was swamped with other games at the time so it took me a while to get round to REPLACED and after playing it... what an amazing experience this game truly was. I am so sorry it took me so long to get round to it. I haven't been this engrossed into a game for a long time, it's that good. Below I will explain, so let's get to it! https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3754855322
What I liked/Pros
⚫The moment I started the game, it captivated me instantly. Kept me hooked from start to finish. The story... oh man the story was excellent (more on this below). ⚫(SPOILER FREE) The story of REPLACED has you following an AI that is trapped inside of a human body - R.E.A.C.H. Not only was this interesting in it's own, watching the AI learn what it is to be human... a question got raised while playing and that was "What does it mean to be human" and oh man... this really made me feel for the AI. This cinematic story really outshines all these AAA(A) games. ⚫The soundtrack is drop dead gorgeous. I instantly bought it on steam after finishing the game. I fell in love with a few songs, what can I say... I love the soundtrack for REPLACED!!! ⚫The combat was just fantastic! How fluent the attacks are. Being able to attack an enemy to build up gun charge (to shoot back), then instantly able to deflect rounds into a dodge... oh my goodness. I had so much fun! ⚫REPLACED has some gorgeous visuals that are just picture-postcard worthy. Absolutely stunning to the eyes! I'm going to post one of my favourite little moments: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3754854882 ⚫There is plenty of lore to be found to learn what happened in this world. (I'm mentioning this because I love it when developers care about their stories, their worlds and characters). ⚫Optimisation/bugs? The game didn't crash on me at all, no FPS drops, no stuttering. Nothing. For me, the game was optimised well. Bug wise? I didn't encounter a single bug myself. For my entire 10 (almost 11 hours) not a single issue. (I know Sad Cat released multiple patches since the game came out fixing issues) ⚫For £16.99 (or on sale £13.59) you definitely get your money's worth. The story is 10 (ish) hours long and pacts a punch. Least your not spending £70+ for a buggy, broken, unoptimised sloppy game.
What I disliked/Cons
⚫N/A - I loved this game!
My Verdict/TL;DR
REPLACED is arguably my favourite 2.5D pixel art style game. It gave me major Bladerunner and Upgrade vibes. The story had me hooked from start to finish. The game looked stunning... like... absolutely stunning. The combat had me hooked also with how fluent it was! I didn't have any issues playing this at all. Sad Cat Studios, I commend you for all your hard work and for delivering a truly remarkable, visually stunning and optimised game! REPLACED is amazing and I need more! I want more! https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3754855253
10/10! REPLACED is a truly remarkable game made by a studio that clearly cares about what they make
Jesus ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ Christ, what a game! It is as if Cyberunk 2077 and Blade Runner had a baby with Detroit Become Human personality. Artwork is great, story is adequate, level design is intriguing enough and the music is top notch. Kinda feels like Tron: Ares tbh. There is so much to appreciate in this game and I am writing this just after I have finished the game and my hands are still shaking after this amazing experience. A must-buy for cyberpunk fans. It won't disappoint.
Outstanding visuals and a thumping synthwave score in this cinematic platformer with some adventure game and combat, it just looks so damn good. But it's unfortuneatly not perfect in the other (arguably more important) areas. Nothing in the gameplay is bad, in fact it's it's pretty good. It's just that there is nothing in the gameplay that stand out and a game that looks and sounds this good deserves a outstanding gameplay to match it, not just "pretty good". The combat is competent, it's fluid enough, the finisher animations look great and you really get how powerful your character is in combat (basically Batman mixed with John Wick). You have a good enough, amount of moves and abilities to not make it overwhealming, but you also have all abilities halfway through the game and then there is very little new added. No new enemies, nothing(it's the usual fast, normal, big and defending type). Same with the puzzles and plaforming sections, it feels like you seen it all halfway to three quarters in. There are also some pacing issues, there are a little too many momensts where you drag a box several rooms so you can jump higher, the game feels a bit longer than it needs to be with the amount of content there is. There where also some minor issues with the controls, sometimes the game had a hard time recognising if i wanted to climb up a ledge or jump to my doom... There are very frequent checkpoints so again, nothing major. I hate to sound so negative, because as a whole, i'm not that disapointed, I just never felt it touched that high I was hoping for. Was I having to high expectations from the truly breathtaking visuals? Perhaps. Still, I would probably give it 8/10, even if it's a weak 8. It's a good game. Perhaps a bit long for it's own sake but worth a playthrough. The devs also added a chapter selector that shows how many collectables you have left in each subarea, so that's nice, You can go back anytime to a finished chapter and replay it to get upgrades or collectables and then jump back to where you where. So nothing is truly missable.
