Resident Evil 4 is a 2005 survival horror game developed and published by Capcom for the GameCube. It is the fourth main installment in the Resident Evil series. Players control the special agent Leon S. Kennedy on a mission to rescue the president of the United States's daughter, Ashley Graham, who has been abducted by a religious cult in rural Spain. Leon fights hordes of enemies infected by a mind-controlling parasite and reunites with the female spy and mercenary Ada Wong. In a departure ...

Runs well on modern hardware.

Walk into village. Everyone is staring at you. This is bad. Chainsaw guy appears. This is worse. Try to run. Get surrounded. Panic. Leon parries a chainsaw. Leon roundhouse kicks someone into another person. Leon does a backflip off a wall. This is not a horror game anymore. Ashley gets grabbed. Turn around. Shoot. “LEOOOON!” She stands in the way. Of course she does. Panic again. Merchant appears. “What are ya buyin’?” Sir I am fighting for my life. Peak Gameplay. Peak Game. Resident evil is awesome. Play it. Good Series.
They added jiggle physics to the regenerador's asscheeks. Absolutely peak game
Resident Evil 4 is the most beloved game in the franchise for a reason. The original from 2005 is truly special and although I would recommend you play that one over this remake, this is a darn good game, and a decent substitute. I can see why they ditched the tank controls from the original. It's not a very appealing control scheme to a newer audience, by whom it's expected that you can move around freely. It of course also lines up with the previous remakes of the games in the series. The tank controls in the original game added a very suppressive and cornered feeling, making each of your actions way more high-stake and in turn heightening the fear factor. Sure, you could aim and shoot wherever you wanted, but did you stand in the right place? Do I stand far enough away from this enemy to start attacking it? This feeling is intensified even more in moments where hordes of enemies are on you or when you're fighting a boss. Positioning and timing is key in that game. In this game on the other hand you just kinda do whatever and go with the flow. But in all honesty, they do get away with emulating this emotion pretty well, as you often are in cramped small spaces and have to stand still to steady your aim, albeit with a few more enemies bombarding you. This flow that I'm talking about is actually the game's biggest strength. By the end I was clearing masses of enemies and it ran like clockwork. Headshot, bing, kick, bong, headshot again, bang. All very satisfying. The biggest letdown for me are the characters and their performances. Everyone just feel like knockoff versions of their original counterparts, both in the way they look and the way they act. They all feel... soy, for lack of a better word. And Leon's classic cheesy lines? They fall so flat. And apart from them BUTCHERING Ashley's appearence, and nerfing her ballistics, the way you control her doesn't make much sense to me. You order her to stay away from you, but she's still up in your ass. But it's whatever, she was never much of a nuisance anyway. I don't wanna come across as some purist but RE4 (2005) is dear to me. RE4 didn't really need a remake, but the fact that it did get one as good as this makes me glad. And although it lacks the soul of the original, I really like this game, and it runs and looks great even with my meager 8gb of VRAM (I have a newer 16gb card but haven't installed it yet lel).
