It's probably the most creative game I've ever played, and it's played with one button. A true masterpiece.
nothing in gaming can compare to playing 2 - X for the first time. Absolutely phenomenal
Incredible rhythm game. Just tap on the seventh beat. You just need one button to play. You get audio cues for the first 6 beats, and you just need to press on the 7th beat. Easy. Well, until the game tells you to work with multiple rhythms at once, or gives a different kind of beats where you need to press on the 2nd beat instead, and so on. The core of the game is so simple, yet it's developed in such an amazing way with a variety of ways to play. The game also comes with a story! I think the story itself is fine, it's nothing to write home about, but it's still pretty good compared to many rhythm games. Also, the story is engaging, and it leads to gameplay surprises. The soundtracks are excellent -- a rhythm game ought to have good songs, after all. And most of them are custom made, since usual songs don't fit well into the Rhythm Doctor gameplay. The graphic design is crisp; the pixelated art is readable. And being a rhythm game, it has custom charts with a lot of people designing them. Now, the same developer also made A Dance of Fire and Ice. I think ADOFAI is actually better than Rhythm Doctor if you focus primarily on the song and chart contents; I think it's more expressive. But you play Rhythm Doctor primarily for the story and surprises. And it's a delight. Do I recommend this? I think I would recommend ADOFAI slightly more, especially because it's cheaper. But Rhythm Doctor is excellent and very much worth it too, and you'll find an experience unlike any other.
