Runs well on modern hardware.

This game is broken for modern systems and would need something like OpenRCT2 to run, but i didn't like the UI scaling factor of OpenRCT2 on my 2k monitor. The UI is WAY WAY too small, but you can scale it in the settings. However, it also scales the game environment and degrades the pixel quality very notably, especially when zoomed out, and there was no solution I found except to buy RollerCoaster Tycoon CLASSIC. Classic looks better on modern displays. It might not have all the fan made extras, but it's a much more authentic experience to what Chris Sawyer had initially put out with RCT1 and 2, but with better progression with the scenarios. Unless you are running retro hardware, perhaps specifically a older CRT monitor, then this and OpenRCT2 might be a good fit, but otherwise I wouldn't bother. The downgrade in pixel quality due to the scaling factor is a major put-off for me. I also am not too interested in fan made content, like extra coasters and such. I just want what I played as a kid Edit: NVM openrct is mostly fine. the UI is small and i refuse to enlarge it in order to not degrade the pixel quality. i'm still not sure, it adds new track pieces and such it really isn't old school rct anymore but a cool fan remake. but this isnt an openrct review now is it? but still, would i get this over classic without openrct? hell no! however, i think with openrct it isn't a big deal to pick one or the other. just pick if you want the popular rollercoaster tycoon experience, or do you want the classic rollercoaster tycoon experience WITH a bunch of addons and tweaks allowing you more creative freedom with all the new customization options? now mind you, people still post absolutely stunning old school rct parks to this day, so it really comes down to if you want to geek out on new extra new rides, ride parts and stuff, or is that all too much for you right now and you just want a simple and smooth experience? classic is smooth and simple and true to it's roots, and openrct is for people who want to take it a step further.
One of the best childhood games: This is a classic PC game, and its design is incredibly tight and fun. There is so much freedom and creativity within each scenario, and my only gripe comes down to the limited maps/scenarios for such a large, ceaselessly fun game. More blank canvases for rollercoaster art; I am sick of Arid Heights. This game is so much fun, and it is only limited by the number of maps and scenarios they have set.
This game is extremely addicting and very charming, there is just so much attention to detail that you won't see in many modern rollercoaster tycoons nowadays
