I'm only 3 hours in, currently, but this is exactly what I wanted from something that you run while doing something else. Some of these types of games have just a little too much going on, where you find yourself spending more time than you really were supposed to on the game. For something that's meant to sort of idle as a "multi-tasking" sort of thing, that means you're not really multi-tasking. The games are fun, of course, but you're no longer doing what you intended, which was a balance of doing the thing you're struggling to do- the productivity- and the game, which is too fun to ignore. Rusty's Retirement kind of nailed that down. I WANT to focus on the game, but it takes time. It has to work through the things it's doing, so I have nothing to do but be productive while it does its thing. Eventually, I hit this really nice flow state where I can occasionally sit back, glance over, check on Rusty, and then return to my work. Even when I do eventually fiddle with Rusty, there's only so much I can do at any given time. Eventually, I need to wait for the game to proceed, and that's exactly what these sorts of games need to do. They need to make you wait, so you actually have to do the thing you're wanting to do, but struggling to focus on. Rusty's Retirement is really sweet, the music is perfect, and I'm excited to have so much more waiting for me, on top of the map I'm currently working on. There's so much ahead. This one's a fantastic mix of wanting to engage, but having to wait.
Not a true idler game. It cannot just sit alone and do its thing while you do other things. You have to keep an eye on the game and plant crops, where you make active decisions in the game. Better just buy Ropuka's Island folks. In that game, Ropuka cuts the grass, and you doing anything beyond just opening the game and letting him loose is optional.
a very simple, yet challenging idle game to kill time. i really loved the mechanics of the game, how simple it starts off, and how it progresses eventually, with the automations, with tiny little robot-spider like things and stuff overall, a 10/10 game to be running off in the side, whenever you've got boring stuff to do
