Sam & Max Hit the Road is a graphic adventure video game released by LucasArts during the company's adventure games era. The game was originally released for MS-DOS in 1993 and for Mac OS in 1995. A 2002 re-release included compatibility with Windows. The game is based on the comic characters of Sam and Max, the "Freelance Police", an anthropomorphic dog and "hyperkinetic rabbity thing". The characters, created by Steve Purcell, originally debuted in a 1987 comic book series. Based on the 1989 Sam & Max comic On the Road, the duo take the case of a missing bigfoot from a nearby carnival, traveling to many American culture tourist sites to solve the mystery.

Runs well on modern hardware.

i love the gay cops
I played this game a ton of times growing up at my friends house. His Dad was one of the first people I knew who actually owned a computer. I am 40 now, for reference. Most people didn't really have home computers at the time. It is very nostalgic for me and just such a great game. The only problem is once you solve all the puzzles, you can repeat over and over, as are games like this of this era. Here's the trick. Beat it and forget it when you're 12, then come back to it when you're 40, you will remember some things, but not everything. Next tip; if you're playing for the first time, savor it. This game can take you a lifetime to beat, or an hour once you know everything.
It was pretty confusing to get through most of this game without a guide, but aside from that I found the game pretty enjoyable, especially the story.
