SCP: Secret Laboratory is a free-to-play, multiplayer, asymmetrical, first-person shooter video game, developed and published by Northwood Studios. Originally released in 2017; it is inspired by the works of the SCP Foundation collaborative fiction writing project, as well as the 2012 video game SCP – Containment Breach. Like its inspiration, SCP: Secret Laboratory takes place during a site-wide containment breach at an SCP Foundation owned facility. The premise tasks players with either escaping the facility alive, or killing all opposing players, depending on which role they spawn as. The game has received mostly positive reviews for its chaotic gameplay and for being an easy to access introduction to the SCP mythos.

Runs well on modern hardware.

spawned as prisoner. got ambushed by guards, guards get ambushed by scps, scps get ambushed by blue guards. 10/10 would recommend
First off, I want to state I love SCP SL, and while Northwood isn't perfect, I think they've done a good job with the title; the community will be the focus of this review. SCP:SL has arguably one of the most insufferable communities. Swapping servers has almost no effect, and while having fun playing a video game isn't a crime and I'm not attempting to be the thief of joy, the game is infested with voice changers, sound pad spammers, and little kids, becoming a pseudo daycare for its "unique" player base. Everyone spams intercom to tell a "funny" joke, which you're forced to listen to throughout the entire facility. None of this is the game's fault, particularly; it's free to play and the topic of the niche internet, but all worth mentioning for any new players. Only thing I'll mention Northwood could improve on is the updates, which, from their devblogs, looks to be ramping up. I've played SL on and off for a couple of years, being lightly involved with the whole SCP universe and wiki. To be quite honest, it's almost the exact same as when I first started playing it. Minus the heavy containment rework, animations, lighting changes, & spawn wave changes, all being "tweaks" in my opinion. With the only real content additions being SCP 127, which I'm happy about, and the ghost blade that resurrects the dead on your team. No new playable SCPs other than the upcoming SCP-953, and after this many years, feels long overdue.
Fun, addicting gameplay loop, though it can be quite frustrating and boring when the SCP team raids the entirety of the light containment zone in mere seconds or whenever they camp the entrance zone for the entire duration of the round. The game clearly had a lot of love and care put into it and it seems to have a promising future. Also, please give an ability to automatically connect to a server when a slot becomes available, as well as an optimization update.
