An excellent game with challenging combat, beautiful magical moves, and cinematic flair. I find it tougher than Persona, and there’s definitely grinding especially in the final chapter. 8.5/10. Highly recommended for Persona fans
What can I say about this game? You’ve seen my playtime, right? I went beyond 100% and still keep coming back for more. Sure, there are RPGs on Steam with better graphics, characters, and story. But the gameplay, the refined fusion mechanics, the care put into adding unique animations for many of the 270+ demons, and the fact that they have their own innate passive skills, makes this game the peak of SMT gameplay. Recently, I started a NG+ from scratch after maxing out both level and stats (along with perfect demons), keeping only the compendium and my two waifus, Tao and Yoko (each with stats 999 everything except Str), by my side… Just one request to Atlus: stop starting games in post-apocalyptic worlds. I get that it might be more work, but catastrophic events should unfold throughout the story. I think what I’m trying to describe here is something like Devil Survivor Overclocked on the 3DS. There, the Yamanote Circle in Tokyo gradually spirals more and more out of control each day. Here, every map already starts completely lawless, filled with demons, and each one just has a different shade of sand. Even Metaphor: ReFantazio had better worldbuilding, since the sky turns red toward the end of the game.
Short & Punchy This is how SMT V was meant to be played. The jump from Switch to PC is night and day—4K, 60+ FPS, and zero stuttering makes exploration a joy.
