Sifu is a 2022 beat 'em up game developed and published by Sloclap. Set in China, players control the child of a martial arts school's sifu (master) who seeks revenge on those responsible for their father's death. Every time the protagonist dies, they are resurrected by a magical talisman and age up, gaining access to more powerful attacks but reducing their health. When the player character becomes too old, they can die permanently, in which case players must restart the level from the beginning and from the same age as their initial attempt.

Runs well on modern hardware.

Sifu might be the best beat em up ever made, it is very hard to master but once you figure it out you feel like a badass. I recommend the Sifu guide by underthemayo on youtube if you're having trouble with the game. I don't really know what else to say other than that it's just a sick ass game, I hope every future beat em up takes notes from this one, would love a co-op version of this game.
Game Design at Its Finest
Sifu is a great game that I really feel like deserves way more praise. It perfectly mashes beat 'em up, souls-like, and rogue-like elements in a way we've never seen before.
Game Design and Mechanics
The game designers of Sifu are genuinely geniuses. The rogue-like age gimmick, sekiro's posture bar and beat 'em up mechanics that feel great all have a synergy that reinforces each other. The art style is phenomenal, the game looks insanely good, proving once again you never need a photorealistic art style for amazing visuals.
Game Feel and Atmosphere
The game feel is simply excellent. The animations, the sfx, the controls, and the way enemies react to your hits are all so satisfying. The cinematography and atmosphere add to the game's feeling of immersion. The level design is on point. I can't say the minimalistic storytelling is a flaw for me since I think it perfectly suits this kind of game, a minor flow may be that each run starts feeling kinda same each time. It's a minor flaw since the game itself is so engaging and fun.
Conclusion
Sifu is a game that I was blown away by the quality and design throughout my playtime. It's a unique experience that you can't find anywhere else. Even though it's been praised a lot, I still think it's underrated. I would like to see Sloclap do games like Sifu again. Sifu’s a top tier action game that nails tons of Chinese Kung Fu moves perfectly. If it only had the Vengeance ending it’d be straight up mid, but the Wude true ending is what gives the whole game its real heart. It’s got a decent learning curve on top of that, and group fights can hit way harder than bosses sometimes. Pretty bittersweet that a French dev put together such a solid showcase of Chinese culture.
