SnowRunner is a 2020 simulation video game developed by Saber Interactive and published by Focus Home Interactive. Following on from Spintires and the sequel MudRunner, the game was announced as MudRunner 2 in August 2018. Focus Home and Saber Interactive re-revealed the title a year later as SnowRunner. The game was released for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on April 28, 2020, which was followed by a port for Nintendo Switch on May 18, 2021. It was released for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S on May 31, 2022. SnowRunner has the player control off-road vehicles as they traverse locations to complete objectives. The game features over 60 different vehicles and more than 15 locations. Much of the content is delivered across 4 anniversary year editions as DLC. A spin-off title, Expeditions: A MudRunner Game was released on March 5, 2024.

Runs well on modern hardware.

โญโญโญโญโญ I installed SnowRunner because I thought, "How hard can driving a truck be?" The game looked peaceful in the trailers. Beautiful forests, snowy mountains, relaxing music, and some trucks driving through nature. That was a lie. Five minutes in, I discovered that the real final boss isn't the weather, the terrain, or even the missions... It's a puddle. Not a lake. Not a river. A puddle. I've driven through rivers that were easier than whatever dark magic lives inside those innocent-looking mud holes. Every "shortcut" I took turned into a three-hour rescue operation. First, I got one truck stuck. Then I brought another truck to rescue it. Then that truck got stuck too. Before I knew it, I had accidentally created my own truck museum in the middle of the swamp. The winch deserves Employee of the Year. That cable has done more work than all my trucks combined. And let's talk about rocks. In every other driving game, rocks are scenery. In SnowRunner, they have personal vendettas. They wait until you're carrying expensive cargo before flipping your truck over like they're trying out for the Olympics. Fuel? Gone. Cargo? Somewhere in the forest. My patience? Also gone. Yet somehow... I can't stop playing. There's something incredibly satisfying about finally delivering cargo after spending two hours fighting mud, gravity, trees, rivers, and your own terrible decision-making. Every successful delivery feels like you've completed a world-saving mission instead of transporting wooden planks. The graphics are gorgeous, the physics are surprisingly realistic, and every truck feels unique. The game constantly reminds you that rushing is a terrible idea. Slow and steady isn't just a strategyโit's the only way to survive. SnowRunner doesn't care how experienced you are. It humbles everyone equally. If you enjoy relaxing games, you'll find yourself screaming at a muddy hill. If you enjoy difficult games, you'll find yourself screaming at a muddy hill. If you enjoy trucks, you'll definitely find yourself screaming at a muddy hill. 10/10. Would confidently drive into the same swamp again, fully convinced "this time it'll be different."

The developers have just come out and stated that they use GenAI in upcoming games. Despite my 1000+ hours in this game, I cannot recommend it no more.
