Sonic Mania

Extremely late review. I received this game at launch for my PS4, then bought it again two other times to have a physical edition and a Steam edition. I just love it that much. The epitome of "for the fans, from the fans". Each time this quote resurfaces, I am immediately reminded of the glory Mania brought. SEGA has always had an obsession with celebrating Sonic's birthday, and they always either nail it perfectly or plunge into the strangest abyss. This was the last game I truly feel excited for, from announcement to credits roll. As a lifetime Sonic fan, having grown uo with the Blue Blur in myriads of iterations, this was and forever will be one of my favorite games. It pulled on heartstrings I forgot I had, and that I have reminded myself to cherish every once in a while by booting up this gem. You know what this is; it's been a long time. 2D platformer where speed takes the spotlight, both when it revisits the past, revamping it, and when it gazes into the landscapes of a new journey, elevating the experience. Do you like 90s Sonic? Did you grow up with it? Do you know nothing about the franchise, but love the genre? Two words: [i]must have[/i].

As a huge fan of the Genesis Sonic games, I have to say this game is pretty good. I'm slightly disappointed there are a lot of nostalgic stages as opposed to primarily ones with completely new designs, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Highly recommended for classic and new Sonic fans.
