Not only do you get an updated Sonic Generations (an already solid game) with better graphics and better(?) dialogue, you also get Shadow Generations, where Sonic Team finally figured out how to craft levels for the boost formula that feel perfectly well rounded. This is the best thing to come out of this franchise since Sonic Mania almost a decade ago (yes, it's already been that long).
This is a good product that a good team worked on, thank you, the game is fun..) We are waiting for the DLC where Nakkuruzu za Ekiduna will play the leading role, it’s time, the time has come, everyone needs it..)
SHADOW GENERATIONS is the perfect blueprint for Sonic’s next big game. Giving me hope that Sonic’s golden age is about to come. But the Sonic gens remaster is a bit underwhelming.

SONIC X SHADOW GENERATIONS is great for newcomers who have never played the original game. But pointless if you have already played the OG game.
1. SxS gens have done a great job of fixing a big flaw that I had with Sonic gens was the game’s length. You can beat this game in 5 hours or faster if you just do the bare minimum by playing the stages normally and only doing one out of the five missions to get the boss keys. Trying to 100% can salvage the runtime, but it may not satisfy that itch for you. How SxS gens fixed this was a new story campaign featuring Shadow the Hedgehog in his own adventure. The DLC I was hoping the original would get, but never got. This is awesome for you, who may are starting to get into Sonic, not only this fixed the OG game length, it also give you a nice spotlight/first impression for Shadow. 2. Sonic gen remaster is a bit of a letdown for me. I’m not saying it’s a bad game. It’s a fantastic game! But coming from the 30 fps xbox360 version to the 60fps pc with mods like Better FxPipeline. I expect the game to have a BIG overhaul like it being ported to the Hedgehog Engine 2, to make a pretty game prettier. Gameplay changes like nerfing classic Sonic’s spin-dash. But nothing really changed gameplay wise or graphically. I did come across more bugs, not really game braking, but for me to get those glitches in the first place was me playing like an idiot. What disappoint me the most was the new content. Sonic gens older brother, Sonic unleashed had DLC giving already existing levels a harder version and one extra act. Why not do the same with generations? I know asking for more levels is a bit much nowadays (it’s a 15-year-old game) but no hard/expert Version of the levels, no Act 3 for classic, no Act 4 for Modern. Sonic Team did add new things, like finding Chao’s. Which is neat, but they don’t do anything. Why would you care to get them, other than wanting to 100% the game? Sonic team also gave Classic and Modern Sonic the drop-dash, but I don’t see any use for it. 3. The story and cutscene has been altered a bit, but what they change is for the worse. I want to know why tho? The OG script was fine as it is. Why even remove some jokes for references that only hardcore Sonic fans will get. For exp: [Modern Sonic and Tails are in front of the partially colored Green Hill Stage Entrance.] Modern Sonic: Is it me, or is that place we were just in awfully familiar? Modern Tails: Not to me, but this place looked like something sucked all the life and color out of it. Totally strange. To: Modern Sonic: Is it just me, or does Green Hill look different? Tails: This isn’t South Island, and all the color and life’s been drained from it. Totally strange. Chemical Plant: [Tails is seen flying around and spots Sonic.] Tails: [Waves] Sonic! Sonic: Tails! [Tails lands near Sonic.] Tails: This Chemical Plant feels familiar. I’d never forget a smell like this! And that pink water makes me really nervous for some reason. Sonic: You’re right, Tails. This place is giving me déjà vu all over again! To: Tails: [Waves] Sonic! Modern Sonic: Tails! [Tails lands near Sonic.] Tails: This is definitely the Chemical Plant, but we’re not remotely on West Side Island. Did that monster do this? Modern Sonic: We’ll figure it out later. Our friends come first! Why I prefer the old version is that Sonic and Tails have not been to these places for a long time. That’s why he doesn’t recognize Green Hill Zone and Chemical Plant. And just to have it where Tails and Sonic know what Green Hill & Chemical Plant is. This ruins the OG joke that Tails can’t recognize Green Hill cause he wasn’t in Sonic 1. (And why mention South-Island & West Side Island Sonic only went there once.) The Chemical Plant scene does not need to be messed with. That the pink water makes Tails nervous is funny because of that one section in Sonic 2 (if you played sonic 2 you know what I’m talking about). To him naming West Side Island like everyone know what that place is. It’s just unnecessary. But on the bright side, Sonic don’t stay mute when rescuing his friends. On the topic of unnecessary changes, I have to address the three enormous elephants in the room.
Rouge’s Cleavage and Amy’s character change!
It’s not crazy change, but why put in the effort of covering Rouge’s boobs away and it’s only her who got a bit of a touch up, and why now? Amy, on the other hand, has her entire bio and dialogue changed. She went from being obsessed with Sonic to more of Sonic’s friend. I understand that they did this to reflect her current characterization. This sorta make her less unique than before. Lucky the remaster is paired with an amazing game that is Shadow Generations. If Shadow gens didn’t exist, this would be a lack luster remaster for those who played the OG.
Sonic Frontiers 2 is got to be a knock out of the park, if Shadow gens is a sneak peek of what’s coming!
1. It’s a guarantee that you will enjoy this game has fully 3d and 2d levels, different paths and shortcuts to take. Really creative level design that uses shadow gimmicks. They have taken the best parts of Sonic Adventure 1 and 2, plus Heroes and 06. And put it in this game. I have played the Kingdom Valley stage like five times to find one item for the chest for White Space. Just to find out that there was a hidden tunnel with the item in it (It’s not that well hidden, but I find that to be neat). I love all the levels, Sonic Team have done a great job not making them feel shallow. 2. It’s hard to say what I truly dislike about this game other than the act 2 levels is a bit weak to act 1. But one thing for sure I don’t like is the machine parts. I wish they have it where if you find 75/80, the rest should be on your map so you don’t be running around like a headless chicken to find them. The rest I have are nitpicks that being that the npc’s are not in Shadow’s missions, like what they did with Sonic friends in gens. It would cool to have Omega or Big the Cat to help you beat a challenge. And also there not being a level from shadow the hedgehog. I could say the movie DLC could be it, but I wish at least one was in the main game. So, tldr with played the OG Sonic gens skip it and play Shadow.
