A short psychological horror game, where you attempt to gain root access into an unethical superstructure.

Runs well on modern hardware.

In s.p.l.i.t you try to hack into and destabilize the power core of a highly corrupt government with two buddies using old school console interface. Was a pretty short but interesting game and it replicated the console interface really well, this must be how it feels to use Linux. The game does have a pretty grim atmosphere and really sells you on the hopelesness of the world your character inhabits. One big positive from me is that although the game has two endings which diverge only at the end the game saves in a way that allows you to get both endings without having to playthrough the entire game twice. So thank you Mike for not making us achievement hunters go through the game twice just to do one small thing differently near the end!
I recently discovered Mike Klubnika, and find his unique style of atmospheric dystopian environments, micro horror and focus on diegetic design very interesting. Having gone through most of his creations, s.p.l.i.t feels like a maturation of his art, and I really like it. s.p.l.i.t is an excellent short horror story told through diegetic UI design and simple "terminal hacking" gameplay. It' surprisingly effective at worldbuilding despite the game happening inside a single room. Depressingly grim atmosphere and excellent music builds dread and tension throughout, ending on a note that lingers. Mike also has a super cool website with his other games, check it out at https://mikeklubnika.com/
Interesting concept, but very poor UX / immersion breaking decisions. The MC, supposed member of a competent hacking group, cannot type faster than 75 wpm. If you try, the game just silently drops your keystrokes. The terminal has no tab completion at all. Shortcuts use the incorrect keymap (e.g. Z and Y is swapped for DE-layout) Some filenames contain spaces, yet the terminal does not support spaces, escaping or quoting. Key story files do not contain contents that their extension implies. Such as JSON containing freeform text instead. The majority of files cannot be interacted with. There are optional files containing lore strewn inbetween like needles in a haystack. The gameplay consists of two trivial "puzzles" and some "typing of the dead" action.
