Subnautica is a 2018 action-adventure survival game developed and published by Unknown Worlds Entertainment. The player controls Ryley Robinson, a survivor of a spaceship crash on an alien oceanic planet, which they are free to explore. The main objectives are to find essential resources, survive the local flora and fauna, and find a way to escape the planet.

Runs well on modern hardware.

I'm one of those rare people that manage to avoid knowing anything about Subnautica going into this game blind I wasn't expecting much and it honestly took me a while to get into the game, but as soon as I established a habitat and a home for myself I became obsessed. The base building is just so fun to mess around with I personally just make one giant super base and it was sick, speaking of sick THE CYCLOPS I love that thing so much and honestly made the game so much more fun and 10x better than I thought it could ever be. I'm not the type of person to write long reviews I like to keep it short and simple, but to be transparent I felt guilty because a reason I avoided knowing anything about the game is because I didn't really care for it when it came out and just brushed it off as a boring ocean, I would happily like to say this game proved me wrong and then some.
Do I recommend this game? Short answer: ā„ā„ā„ā„ā„ā„ā„ā„ā„ yes!, It is incredible and I genuinely believe most people would love to immerse themselves in this game. Every single one of the 102 hours I've spent on this game has been during the last month, so you could say this game really hook me in. Long answer: Subnautica is one of the most fun, immerssive and remarkable video games I've ever played, I had no idea what to expect because I never played any survival crafting games before. One of the best things about it is how it creates this environment that completely immerses you in its world, at first it has a very light and fun tone, you land on this beautiful planet, you're surrounded by beautiful flora and fauna everywhere you look and you just have to survive. But that is what makes everything that comes next so cool and freaking terrifying. Once you start adventuring outside the Safe shallows and the Grassy plateau the game becomes less and less safe, and your feelings of unease just gets worse and worse. You're picking up scrap metal and scanning stuff in a sandy area without much flora at all and before you know it a Reaper grabs you and tries to eat you, you manage to stab it with your knife and he drops you but you're shook and you bolt out of there as fast as you can. You proceed to spend the next 10 to 20 hours thinking a Reaper will show up out of nowhere anywhere you go, so you play it safe and avoid dark places that are a bit too deep to feel comfortable. Even without Reapers, the ocean itself is pretty damn terrifying, you're 200-300 meters deep without a single thing in sight except maybe some groups of tiny fish swimming around you, you have no idea where you are, where to go, how deep the ocean floor is, what's waiting for you ANYWHERE in this new and dark environment. The game creates an atmosphere of terror by doing nothing, just leaving you to your own devices in the dark depths of this unknown ocean. At the same time you want to explore, see what else is out there and your sense of exploration, adventure and discovery fight with the dread you feel every time you head in a new direction and go to an unfamiliar place. You eventually start to get to know the game, you start to know what to expect after taking enough risks to familiarize yourself with the different biomes of the game, its different mechanics, the different flora and fauna as well as the story. That alone makes it a remarkable game and a game I will most definitely be replaying in the future, but it doesn't stop there. The game has this really cool way to weave its lore with the fun and terror of exploring the unknown and I have to say I really love what they've done and the voice acting that made all of these different characters you never meet in person come alive in such a vivid way. You want to play a survival game that let's you explore a beautiful, terrifying and atmospheric world then this is it, this game is top tier. The second I upgrade my PC I'm picking up Subnautica 2.
Absolutely loved this game. Even after finishing the story, I still want to come back just to fill every locker with resources, explore every dark corner of the ocean, build a whole underwater megacity, and connect biomes with tunnels like Iām some kind of aquatic city planner. The atmosphere, exploration, and sense of discovery are amazing. 10/10, would get lost in the deep again.
