The VR integration is pretty good, and the aesthetic changes to the house are fine overall. The story is made a bit more accessible (although significantly less creepy). The big problem is the puzzles (or lack thereof). Many of the puzzles from the original name have been removed and replaced with the type of stuff you'd see in a bad escape room. Literally the answers are written on the walls. This culminates with the final encounter being parcheesi. I kid you not, you have to beat Stauf in a board game for children. I wasn't surprised to see the pantry cans puzzle gone since it includes a certain word, but why were so many of the original puzzles removed? I know the original wasn't perfect, but at least it was challenging.
This was a really good escape-room-style game. I completed it in about 5.5 hours. You just go into a room, and then you need to complete all puzzles in there, and then you go to another room. And then you get a story bit each time you complete a room. And the story axwnwa is with live-action actors, which was pretty cool in VR :D Though you could see a kind of 3d outline on them sometimes, but it did't bother me much. Just be aware that there is some jank with the hand physics. Objects can sometimes be hard to grab, especially if they’re right next to something else, but that was by far my biggest issue. Overall, really enjoyable if you like puzzle/escape-room games.
Never played the original, but the VR remake really grabbed me. Atmosphere was wonderful, really put me in the mood. Story was great, and the acting wonderful. Music/ambiance was perfect. Puzzles challenging and fun to figure out. Game gets a solid 8/10 from me.
