The Curse of Monkey Island is a 1997 adventure game developed and published by LucasArts for Microsoft Windows. A sequel to Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge (1991), it is the third game in the Monkey Island series. The story follows protagonist Guybrush Threepwood as he seeks to lift a curse from his love Elaine Marley, while once again being menaced by undead pirate LeChuck.

Runs well on modern hardware.

Such a nostalgic game, I remember my grandmother buying me this game when I was 5/6 and i loved it. Picking it up on steam and replaying has been such a throwback to my childhood and that precious time with her now that she has passed. The game holds up even today, if you remember this from your childhood, get it! If you don't, get it!
Despite the 640x480 resolution limitation, this is a beautiful game of a type we don't often see in 2026. As I'm sure others have said it's an absolute classic, and one of the few Monkey Island games actually available to run on MacOS. Three things make this a hit for me: 1) the voice acting is top notch throughout, 2) The writing is hilarious throughout, and 3) the music is on point A tip: it took me a little while to realize one can click and hold (the left mouse button) to get fast access to the main adventure game controls (use, talk to, examine). For a while I'd been using the keyboard commands and that felt like it was slowing the pace down. Also, realizing that the period key skips through dialogue helped speed up certain sections of the game--as much as I love the voice acting, I don't always want to hear every line to completion. Anyway, if you've never played this game and you've got any interest at all in old school adventure games, this one gets a solid recommend from me.
I ran into a bug about 2/3 of the way through which was maddening but I still think this game is the best of the series. It's very funny
