Playing this sequel felt like visiting old friends I didn’t realize I missed this much. The Darkside Detective universe is still as chaotic, funny, and charming as ever — effortlessly blending horror references, absurd humor, and pop culture into something uniquely lovable. Few point-and-click games manage to feel this smooth and consistently entertaining. Honestly, this series deserves way more attention than it gets. Huge compliments to the devs once again. Now excuse me while I wait impatiently for chapter three.
The sequel to the first game picks up right after the last mission. The sales of the first game must have been great, because this one offers much more. You still have 9 cases to solve, but they are heftier; more scenes, more characters, just more in general. The art is just as good, with a bit more movement than before, and we get a more diverse soundtrack, which is awesome. Dooley’s antics are better than ever; everything this man says is a joke. If you enjoy puns and dad jokes, you will laugh your ass off with him. While playing, I kept wondering how the game would feel with voice acting and whether it would improve the experience. It would definitely require some brilliant comedic voice actors, and for that reason, I’m happy to stick with the voices in my head. If you liked the first game, this one is simply more, and it takes longer to finish. What’s not to love about that? I was very happy when I saw the announcement for a third Darkside Detective game, and I’ll definitely be playing that one as well.
Played both The Darkside Detective and Fumble in the Dark and had so much fun. The dry humor, the writing, hidden jokes, the synergy between McQueen and Dooley, the retro style pixel art game are some of the things that really pulled me in!
