The Forgotten City is a mystery adventure role-playing game developed by Australian developer Modern Storyteller and published by Dear Villagers with additional support from Film Victoria. It is a full game adaptation of the critically acclaimed Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim mod of the same name. Initially released in 2015 as a game mod, the full game was released in July 2021 for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. A cloud-based version launched in September 2021 for the Nintendo Switch.

Runs well on modern hardware.

A very charming remake of a skyrim mod. I would call it the video game equivalent of a great 90s film. Oh! if you are a roman history fan you will have a very delightful time. The writing truly shines when it uses the past to comment and reflect. As the protagonist is someone from current times, the conversations you have with the characters in the forgotten city often feel like you conversing with aspects of roman empire at the time. I am not gonna mention who but debating roman politics was a high point for me. Often you will recognize the stuggles these people face from 1000 years ago. I quite like when a story plays it that way instead of treating the past as alien and strange. They are still people then. We are still people now. Its sadly no outer wilds. Which is has not been beaten in the niche time loop genre. I found the game looking for another high. While it is very well written it lacks other aspects. Its music is not that inspired, same can be said about the art style. The voice acting is serviceable and so is the gameplay. I do like how your best friend can be asked do tasks so you don't need to waste time. The Forgotten city is not forgettable mostly due to its writing that a niche group of nerds will enjoy completely.
I sadly ended up refunding due to the dialogue trees and the quest UI constantly breaking the flow of the game. The handholding was a bit too much for my taste. Minor note: the English accent of the Greek character was so bad it gave me PTSD (being Greek myself).
Sorry, just not a fan. The game has many bugs too and lag - not sure why!
