The Legend of Heroes: Trails into Reverie is a 2020 role-playing video game developed by Nihon Falcom. The game is the tenth installment of the Trails series, itself a part of the larger The Legend of Heroes series, and follows Trails of Cold Steel IV (2018). It was released in Japan for the PlayStation 4 in August 2020, with ports released for the Nintendo Switch and Windows in August 2021. An English version was released in July 2023 with an additional port for the PlayStation 5. Trails into Reverie is considered the end of the series's Crossbell and Erebonia arcs and serves as the precursor to Trails Through Daybreak.

Runs well on modern hardware.

Trails into Reverie serves as an epilogue to the Erebonia and Crossbell arc. In my opinion Trails into reverie have 2 weakness, story and pacing. For the story i think its not good enough, just below my expectation. (It feels like watching filler on shounen anime). And for the pacing, i think its really - really bad. The pacing is really slow and short on action. I think around 75% reading and 25% action to finish the main story. But you can extend the action by going to the dungeon to grind for better gear and character level (this game have more than 40 playable character to use). But again its "meaningless" and take too much time (FYI you just need maintain aroud 10 - 15 char to complete the story). For the other aspect like graphic, gameplay and soundtrack its remains good like you can expect from the Trails series. Reccomend or not? its hard to say. If you hard fans of trails series and want the fullest experience, then its okay to play it. But if you skip it, I still thinks its okay. Just watch youtube or read online for the summary of Trails into reverie. *note: I need so much caffeine only to stay awake and finish this game.
Trails into Reverie was honestly way better than I expected! Switching between three different routes at the same time was a super fun mechanic. The constant cliffhangers can mess with the pacing a bit, but it’s totally worth it. Having Rean, Lloyd, and C at the center gives both the Erebonia and Crossbell arcs the proper send-off they deserved, and it handles the post-war fallout really well. The plot twists and side stories (LOOOREEEEE) in the Reverie Corridor are awesome too—getting to see what everyone was up to after the war through so many different perspectives added a ton of depth. As for combat, the new United Front system is a great addition since it gives you extra options outside of standard Crafts and Arts. I was on the fence about the Reverie Corridor at first, but going through it actually shifts how you level up and experience the game. And just like in Cold Steel IV, the playable roster is absolute massive. Overall, I had a blast with this one. A must-play for any Trails fan. See you again in S1208!
I'm not entirely certain how to review this one. By game hours, it's easy for me to give it a yes vote for recommendation but it's a very conditional one. You could play this raw, not knowing anything about the franchise, and you would only scrape the surface at best for understanding damn near anything about it for reference. I personally believe it requires a lot of effort put in ahead of time with very long, story-driven RPGs to experience this game at its best. It's the rough equivalent of telling someone to play the first nine Final Fantasy RPGs as required reading before you were allowed to play Final Fantasy X. That's this game's one and possibly only weakness and the franchise as a whole. You're much better off playing all the games in line, start to finish, with some exceptions and debate on your start point. This is the game you play as a reward for making it this far. Unlike a good amount of RPGs, this one leads up to one of the best culminations of your time that I can describe for said effort as it ties together three very important Falcom story arcs before it gets itself ready for a fourth and does so in a fantastic manner bordering on fanfiction, at times. Everything that you liked about the games leading up to now, from the original Trails in the Sky through the Crossbell games Zero and Azure and all the way up to Cold Steel IV, is represented here. I don't know how to describe it much better than that without giving a lot of it away. Best advice would be to approach and beat all the previous games, all nine of them, before taking this on. You'll be happy you did and it's by far the best experience imaginable for your time. The only thing that comes close as a culmination title similar to this one is Trails 3rd, which is the best analogy to what this game ends up being, in the end, and if you liked that one then you should have absolutely no problems picking this up. So if you've not played any Falcom games whatsoever but are interested in some very heavy story-telling and fairly challenging gameplay in its own right, start with the other games first, preferably Trails in the Sky (not that I started there, personally). Even the remake would be a good start and its successor remake due out soon. It might be better overall considering the quality of life changes since the days of its original release more than 20 years ago. If you're willing to do a lot of time spent, probably months or even years, then I would tell you to come back here and absolutely enjoy what you get out of the experience - it's the best way to cap it off and tie it all together that I've seen out of any videogame like this.
