The Longest Journey is a 1999 point-and-click adventure video game, written by Ragnar Tørnquist, developed by Norwegian studio Funcom, and released on Microsoft Windows in November 1999; an iOS version was later developed and released on October 28, 2014, though was not upgraded to 64-bit for later systems.

Runs well on modern hardware.

I really enjoyed my time with the game, I got through it in couple sittings over a week or two, it was a nice compact experience. I did start playing with a guide almost immediately because of how obtuse the puzzles were, but it's fun to wander around in the world and try to figure out stuff for yourself now and again. The backgrounds are beautiful and cool and breathe a lot of life into the unique settings alongside the story. There's a real timeless quality to the plot and characters, you could believe the game only came out a couple years ago from a team that just liked old-school aesthetics. I would highly recommend.
Honestly I wanted to like this game but the amount of bugs I have seen made me quit. The game can change fonts on your desktop and also can forbid you from saving sometimes. If you ever want to play it use a virtual mashine like scummVM. Also some of the puzzles are so confusing not in "they are hard way and interesting to figure out" but quite random, sometimes a bad order of adding things can nuke your whole save. If you want to have somehow pleasant experience USE VM, make a lot of saves, and look up tutorials if stuck because those puzzles aren't even puzzles sometimes, most of the time it's the game not working as it should be.
Absolutely adore this game, very much worth a playthrough if you've not experienced this world yet!
