Still holds up, I liked the experience even better than the first game. The story is fantastic and kept me hooked from start to finish. Of course, choices matter here too and because of mine, I will definitely be playing it again soon :) There is everything you can expect from a true Witcher game - political intrigue, betrayal, and difficult choices where there isn't always a clear right answer. The writing remains one of the game's strongest aspects, something expected from CDPR. The combat is something that can feel off, but I think one can easily re-adjust and get used to. There are some though battles and I felt that pretty good on dark difficulty, lol. I wonโt lie, I died a lot, but when you finally beat that boss the feeling is very rewarding. There are many aspects in the game, that CDPR looked into and made better than the first game, always good to see this. My only complaint is that The Witcher 2 felt a little short :( I managed to beat it in just 51 hours, not rushing or anything ofc. In the end I will repeat what I said about the first game โ this game deserves more love. In my opinion it is a must play for every Witcher fan out there! You can better your experience with some mods, there are pretty good ones out there :) Below you will find the usual template I use for these reviews. ---{ Graphics }--- โ You forget what reality is โ Beautiful โ Good โ Decent (after a mod or two) โ Bad โ Donโt look too long at it โ MS-DOS ---{ Gameplay }--- โ Very good โ Good โ It's just gameplay โ Mehh โ Watch paint dry instead โ Just don't ---{ Audio }--- โ Eargasm โ Very good โ Good โ Not too bad โ Bad โ I'm now deaf ---{ Audience }--- โ Kids โ Teens โ Adults โ Grandma ---{ PC Requirements }--- โ Check if you can run paint โ Potato โ Decent โ Fast โ Rich boi โ Ask NASA if they have a spare computer ---{ Game Size }--- โ Floppy Disk โ Old Fashioned โ Workable โ Big โ Will eat 10% of your 1TB hard drive โ You will want an entire hard drive to hold it โ You will need to invest in a black hole to hold all the data ---{ Difficulty }--- โ Just press 'W' โ Easy โ Easy to learn / Hard to master โ Significant brain usage โ Difficult โ Dark Souls ---{ Grind }--- โ Nothing to grind โ Only if u care about leaderboards/ranks โ Isn't necessary to progress โ Average grind level โ Too much grind โ You'll need a second life for grinding ---{ Story }--- โ No Story โ Some lore โ Average โ Good โ Masterpiece โ It'll replace your life ---{ Game Time }--- โ Long enough for a cup of coffee โ Short (imho) โ Average โ Long โ To infinity and beyond ---{ Price }--- โ It's free! โ If it's on sale โ Worth the price โ If u have some spare money left โ Not recommended โ You could also just burn your money ---{ Bugs }--- โ Never heard of โ Minor bugs โ Can get annoying โ ARK: Survival Evolved โ The game itself is a big terrarium for bugs ---{ ? / 10 }--- โ 1 โ 2 โ 3 โ 4 โ 5 โ 6 โ 7 โ 8 โ 9 โ 9.5 โ 10
Many games are like playing a movie, but The Witcher 2 is like playing a novel. It's visually and mechanically dated but definitely worth playing for fans of the series. Smaller in scale than The Witcher 3, but that allows the writers to better integrate the side quests into the main quest, crafting a robust story. The divergent story paths after Act One make for a very rewarding narrative experience overall and give the game huge replay value. Graphics are PS3-era but at PS4 resolution, making for an interesting aesthetic; for instance, Geralt's costume details are sharp, water and wet sand look amazing, but some textures --especially rock faces--betray the wireframes underneath. Voice-acting is top shelf (although the main characters mysteriously have American accents while the supporting characters seem entirely European). Content-wise, if The Witcher 3 is a "soft R," The Witcher 2 would rate a hard R, featuring full female nudity and very coarse language (although the violence features no limb-lopping).
A HUGE improvement over Witcher 1. One of the better story driven games I've played to this day and it was made 15+ years ago. Combat/visuals/story all stand up to most of todays games. Especially the story. Pros: Top tier story writing. Up there with Mass Effect / Baldur's Gate for having genuinely believable characters. Keeps you almost thinking at night about what might happen next. Your decisions play a role in what happens and there are some tough choices they give you. Geralt is slowly becoming one of my favorite protagonist. Is he the most interesting? No. But he definitely is perfect for what the game is trying to portray. Meh: Some of the side missions are eh. A lot of running around the map and going back and forth if you try to even remotely do everything. I think there's some odd spikes / not fun fights that I feel like you almost have to cheese with your witcher signs. I can't imagine enjoying this game on insane difficulty because there's too many group fights in small rooms that I feel like become unfun. Overall I give it a 8.5 / 10. A very solid experience and a good way to get into Witcher 3 before playing it. I feel like I know what to expect and what to look forward to a little more in 3 now.
