Total Annihilation is a science fiction real-time strategy video game released in September 1997 for Microsoft Windows and Mac OS by Cavedog Entertainment and distributed internationally by GT Interactive. Two expansion packs were released in 1998, The Core Contingency on April 29 and Battle Tactics on July 20, while a medieval-themed spin-off called Total Annihilation: Kingdoms was released on June 25, 1999.

Runs well on modern hardware.

First computer game I ever played back in ‘07… absolute banger! Happy to play it again in 2026 and WOULD recommend 🍆
99% of purchases for this one are going to be from returning fans. Just like me they love this game! Unfortunately they are recommending it based on member-berries and good vibes, not the actual product. If you are in the 1%, then avoid this title. Despite winning numerous awards incl. GotY, it has not had an update since 1999 and *DOES NOT WORK* on modern hardware. The community has kept this one alive with support, but you will have to rely on 3rd party unofficial patches. If you want the same gameplay and units, try BAR (Beyond All Reason); it is free and has regular updates. Issues encountered 'out of the box' (no unofficial patches) include: game will not start, no sound, won't save/load, color pallette bugs, resolution locked to letterbox If you are a returning player like me, have some experience convincing older titles to work, and are willing to go the extra mile for your nostalgia hit: Win7 or earlier: compatibility mode. Win8.1 through Win10: compatibility mode + setup guide (in community content). Win11 + nvidia: compatibility mode + setup guide + unofficial patch Win11 + AMD: I couldn't get it to work
+ Working on Debian 13 with proton Best RTS ever made (for its time, still good) TCP/IP Multiplayer is still working Great music Lots of mods, maps and units can be downloaded. (The mods are realy good) - Units tends to get stuck May take hours for a single game
