Tunic is a 2022 action-adventure game developed by Isometricorp Games and published by Finji. It is set in a ruined fantasy world, where the player controls an anthropomorphic fox on a journey to free a fox spirit trapped in a crystal. The player discovers the gameplay and setting by exploring and finding in-game pages of a manual that offers clues, drawings, and notes. The backstory is obscured; most text is given in a constructed writing system that the player is not expected to decipher. Tunic's isometric perspective hides numerous pathways and secrets.

Runs well on modern hardware.

Tunic is one of the best games I have ever played, and quite possibly *the* best game I have ever played. As a game, Tunic is a robust top-down metroidvania. Pathways are not only locked through the traditional "you need X upgrade to use this path" method, but also through clever manipulation of the isometric camera angle. I am consistently surprised through the discovery of paths that were always accessible, but simply hidden until the game naturally revealed them. The instructions of Tunic being scattered throughout the game itself is another brilliant touch, adding another layer of puzzle to the experience. Controls that the player would never have been able to reasonably discover for themselves are shown through the pages at very specific times. As replayable as this game is--and going through things with knowledge of the secret passageways is certainly enjoyable--there is no experience in gaming quite like the first full playthrough of Tunic. There are some small critiques that may be leveled. Sometimes, the lock on system is not quite as intuitive as I would like, or a bit clumsy, and there are a few points throughout the game where the player might clip through the world. The puzzles as well, while almost universally clever and well hidden and delightful, are sometimes endlessly frustrating, as they often require long sequences of inputs and a single mistake can be difficult to detect. Overall, a 10/10 game, and one that is superlative even among the strongest entries of its rank. Tunic is beautiful, clever, boundlessly rich, and a must play for anyone who misses the feeling of discovering how to play a game on your own.
The exploration part is great and you can tell there was a lot of love put into this game. The way you keep discovering abilities you had since the beginning is especially clever. I'm not trying to say it's a bad game, simply that I did not have fun playing it personally and that you should be aware of the kind of game that Tunic is. It gets really hard. You're meant to die, and retry until you've learnt the whole section and can execute it perfectly. I ended up being more frustrated than having fun overall. If you're like me and you don't enjoy trying the same section again and again, this is not for you.
A cute isometric metroidvania game with some souls like aspects. A big thing on exploration, puzzles and discovery! Combat takes abit of a backseat but is quite palatable. A really wonderful game with some vibe-coded music. Has a fantastic randomizer too would recommend!
