UFO 50 is a video game collection developed and published by Mossmouth for Windows in September 2024 and for Nintendo Switch in August 2025. It features 50 unique games of varying genres and length. The games were a collaborative effort by six developers over the course of several years, its development akin to a game jam.

Runs well on modern hardware.

This is it. The culmination of game design and game archiving, a game of outstanding game design, archived for play, about a game company that doesn't even exist. You want throwbacks? You want genre mashups never before-seen? You want tight multiplayer gaming? Weird vignettes into "what if there was way more crosspollination of ideas between continents and formats"? If 8-bit game designers knew what deck builders were, and made a game from that, and it wasn't deriative? I'll be honest, I'm only halfway thru really looking thru this; I've "cherried" one, beaten 4, and havent even dusted off like 15. But that's the genius of this; everyone will have new gems that'll blow them away long after purchase, games they'll blow thru, games they'll dislike, and games that'll be something they'll return to for years. Its like those illicit discs from yesteryear, or a box of carts from who knows where; each game is 50c, so one or five that you don't like isn't a problem with this absolute unit of value and quality. Its literally one of the most important games to come out this decade and is really good to play on top. That's special.
Half of the games in this are kind of mid at best, but... that still leaves the other half, which makes for 20+ small but reasonably complete and most importantly fun and creative games. Seems like a good deal to me. Barbuta in particular really grew on me.
Sometimes I want to play a quick game that is reminiscent of what you would play on an arcade, and I find it in UFO 50. Sometimes I want to play some niche multiplayer game with a friend, and I find it in UFO 50. Sometimes I want to play a simple-yet-effective 1-hour-long game, and I find it in UFO 50. Sometimes I want to replay this one game in UFO 50 that's always really fun to come back to. You would think that, with such an ample volume of games, the quality of each individual title would suffer, but it doesn't. It's a marvel how much they were able to pack into these simple games. The vast majority of my play time lies in about fifteen of the fifty games, and I have yet to even visit some of the games, and yet I would recommend this package to anyone who remotely likes the short arcade-style retro-style of games.
